Shorewood Hills Shark Tooth
February 23, 2024
We will develop a welcoming school community of global citizens through: Anti-racist practices, strong relationships, and high academic expectations.
Spring break is now officially listed in our upcoming dates. Yay! I think it's safe to say that spring is on the horizon and that feels great. There are some wonderful events coming up. Of note will be the return of Potency of Poetry week in 4th grade. This has been a tradition here at Shorewood for a number of years where David Daniel from the American Players Theater becomes a poet-in-residence for the week. This opportunity for our 4th graders is generously sponsored by our PTO and we are so grateful! The PTO also approved the purchase of a "Gaga Pit" for the 4th and 5th grade playground. We are very excited to install that once all of the snow melts.
We also have our second annual Learning Showcase on Wednesday, March 6th from 5:00-6:30. This open house-style night was a huge success last year. The students have been working hard on a variety of projects to have on display for you. We look forward to seeing you here!

Seeking Volunteers for Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run Shorewood looking for new volunteer coaches.
Shorewood's practice schedule is Tues & Thur from 3:45-5:15pm, starting Tues April 2nd.
Our ability to host programming is dependent on a group of volunteer coaches to lead the team. For a standard team size of 8-15 kids, 3 coaches are needed at every practice. For a large team size of 16-20 kids, 4 coaches are needed at every practice.
If you're available to coach, please sign up! If you know someone who would make a great coach, please help spread the word in your personal networks – we’d greatly appreciate it!
All coaches complete a short application, background check, and coach training prior to the start of the season. Girls on the Run provides a detailed curriculum and all of the program supplies needed to confidently deliver each lesson. Coaches need NOT be runners - just bring your passion for empowering girls! Coaches of all genders are welcome!

Budget and Facility Feedback Sessions
Your feedback is crucial! We invite you to participate in one of six upcoming Budget and Facility Engagement Sessions. As valued members of our community, your input and feedback are vital as we work together to address the challenges facing our aging MMSD facilities and the long-standing issue of underfunding in K-12 education by the state of Wisconsin.
Over the past twelve years, our school district has grappled with inadequate resources by the state of Wisconsin. Now, as we embark on a journey to transform instruction and enhance school climate, we need your insights to inform our decisions.
During these sessions, we will discuss:
- The current state of our facilities and the challenges they pose to teaching and learning.
- Prioritizing resource allocation to meet instructional needs and improve student outcomes.
- Strategies for revitalizing our learning environments to better support student success.
Your thoughts, feedback, and ideas will help shape what’s next for MMSD as we work together to build a brighter future. Together, we can ensure that every student has access to a high-quality education in a supportive and enriching environment preparing them for college, career and community.
