π Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Award Winners
The Sheboygan Area School District is proud to announce that one student and one staff member have been recognized by the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation! Congratulations to Aliyah Huerta from George D. Warriner High School, who was selected as a Herb Kohl Educational Student Initiative Scholar. This scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated a high level of motivation to achieve and have overcome significant personal obstacles or adversity.
Giselle Simons, School Counselor at South High School, has been selected as a Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Teacher Fellow. She is one of only 100 people selected for this honor statewide. Recipients are educators who have been chosen for their superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their students, their ability to motivate others and their leadership and service within and outside the classroom.

β SASD Difference Makers: Krista Everson & Sarah Schuette
Krista Everson, Special Education Teacher at Sheboygan Leadership Academy, and Sarah Schuette, Special Education Teacher at Sheboygan North High School, are SASD Difference Makers! β
βOur son is on the Autism Spectrum and has struggled to adapt during back-to-school transitions in the past. In anticipation of his 8th-grade transition to high school, Krista Everson arranged opportunities for him last spring to emotionally prepare for and tour his new school (North) and to meet Sarah Schuette, who would become his go-to safe person. Sarah, in turn, arranged time for us to tour North and walk through his class schedule, including finding his classes, the best stairways to find his way with less foot traffic, and his locker location. I cannot find words to express how positively this affected his transition; he is happy, feels empowered, and has no anxiety about going to school in the morning. Weβve even seen Aβs for grades in Skyward!
Iβm taking this moment to share that our sonβs positive introduction to high school is because these two teachers went above and beyond to encourage and support him. We are so grateful for them!β
