Stonegate Elementary Newsletter
April 12, 2025
Dear Stonegate Families,
We had a fantastic week! And while we wished for a little more sunshine versus the gloomy weather, the smiles and laughter from our students more than made-up for it!
Our week started off with a very special visit from two VIPs . . . . Mayor Stehr and Dolly, the town dog! Olivia from Mrs. Wagner's room won the spring raffle for Mayor Stehr to visit and read a story to the class. What a treat! Mayor Stehr was incredibly generous with his time and we learned that Dolly's real name is Dahlia, because that is the Zionsville flower!
Three cheers to our PTO and parent volunteers for running our Book Fair! It was a great success and there's nothing like stocking up on wonderful books to get a jump start on your summer reading!
Finally, we ended our week with our Stonegate Swing! The dancing, the music, and the laughter added up to a ✨magical✨ evening filled memories to last a lifetime! Thank you to our PTO for knocking it out of the park! BRAVO!
Looking ahead:

Storytime with Mayor Stehr and Dolly
This week, Mrs. Wagner’s Kindergarten class had the delightful opportunity to welcome a very special guest: Mayor Stehr, accompanied by his trusty companion, Dolly, the town dog. During their visit, Mayor Stehr took the time to read a selection of engaging stories, while Dolly interacted with the students, bringing smiles and laughter to the classroom. This visit not only provided an entertaining experience but also reinforced the importance of community involvement and reading.
🕺 Stonegate Swing! 💃
First Grade Learns about Wind Movement
Our 1st grade students recently embarked on an exciting and educational journey focused on the topic of wind and powerful forces. To bring this concept to life, they engaged in a hands-on learning experience by flying kites. This activity allowed our students to not only understand how wind movement affects objects but also experience the joy of watching their kites soar high in the sky!
Music and Movement Collaboration
During Stonegate Elementary's Related Arts time, Mrs. Torrance and Miss Tooley came together to collaborate on an engaging, holistic "Music and Movement" experience for K-4 students. Through rhythmic movement and creative expression, they blend music and wellness to foster both emotional and physical well-being. During the 4-week collaboration time, students in each grade level are receiving a week-long dive into activities such as cardio drumming, line dancing, body percussion creations, and jump rope. The correlation between movement and music is parallel as musical concepts/skills such as steady beat, tempo, dynamics, expression, and form can be represented by various forms of exercise. Their collaboration helps students develop self-awareness, coordination, and a lifelong appreciation for both the arts and personal wellness!

Second Step Program
So far, our students have learned about skills for learning and empathy. Skills for learning help students gain skills to help themselves learn, including how to focus their attention, listen carefully, use self-talk to stay on task and be assertive when asking for help. When discussing empathy, students learned to identify and understand their own and others’ feelings, how to take another’s perspective and how to show compassion. Students will now begin to discuss emotion management during their Steps to Strong in Every Way time. Students will learn specific skills for calming down when experiencing strong feelings, such as worry or anger. When we are able to recognize and label feelings in oneself and others, we can facilitate problem solving, self-management and social competence much better! Below are the Emotion Management unit home links for each grade level so you can learn more about what your child is learning, why it is important, and activities you can do at home with your child!
Family Assistance Form
When basic needs are met, students are better able to focus on education and learning. Therefore, there is assistance available for our students and their families to help with various needs that may arise throughout the school year. If you are currently in need of assistance, please fill out this Family Assistance form. This information will be kept in strictest confidence.
Warmly,
Jessica Wetzel
