Message from the Principal
Dearest Mason Families,
As we wrap up another wonderful week here at Mason, I want to take a moment to reflect, celebrate, and say thank you. First and foremost, a huge shout out to Mrs. Lyon and Ms. Hurst as we recognized Administrative Professionals Day this week! These two are the heart of our front office, and we are so grateful for all they do to lead our school with care and dedication. Whether it's supporting our students, families, staff, or the broader community, they do it all—and they do it with kindness, patience, knowledge, and an endless smile. Thank you, Mrs. Lyon and Ms. Hurst—we appreciate you more than words can say!
I also want to give a big round of applause to our Student Council members, led by Ms. Rillema, for organizing the exciting Penny War Fundraiser. Our students raised an incredible $1,261.50! While it may have been a “war,” it was filled with fun, spirit, and above all, generosity. We are truly thankful to everyone who contributed and supported this effort. The students decided to use a portion of the funds raised to "Give Some Love to Our Earth" initiative in celebration of Earth Day. As part of that, each family received a packet of flower seeds from the Student Council—our little gift to you and to the planet!
Looking Ahead: MSTEP Testing Next Week
Next week, our 3rd and 4th grade students will participate in the MSTEP (Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress). This is a state-wide assessment designed to measure how well students are mastering grade-level standards in literacy and math. It’s an opportunity for students to show what they know and how they’ve grown.
📚 Literacy – Monday, April 28
🔢 Math – Tuesday, April 29
Here are a few important reminders for families:
-
The test is not timed—students may take as long as they need to do their best.
-
Please help your child get a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast each day.
-
Remind them that they don't need to worry or study for these test they just need to try their best the day of.
-
Encourage a calm mindset and reassure them that this is just one way to show what they’ve learned.
I am so proud of all the hard work our students have put in this year. They are ready, and we believe in them wholeheartedly. Let’s help them walk into the test feeling confident, focused, and supported!
