SPOTLIGHT: Open House- Friday, October 25, 2024
Save the date... We are excited to announce the date of our annual Open House. This event will is scheduled for Friday, October 25. Come learn and celebrate with us!
Last year, we incorporated additional opportunities for parents beyond a classroom visit by offering Parent/Caregiver Workshops throughout the day. In addition to the workshops, parents/caregivers are invited to stay for the PTA sponsored Fun Run (scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm). This is a great opportunity to cheer on our students as they participate in a fun activity outside of the school building. Additional information will be shared later in the next couple of weeks.
In an effort to maintain a safe environment, we are requesting that parents planning to participate pre-register and print out tickets for this event. This will also help us in reducing the sign-in lines and assist teachers preparing for your visit. We hope you will be able to join us! Additional information about pre-registering will be sent in a separate email.
Beall is participating in global Walk to School day on Wednesday, October 9. Join children and adults around the world to celebrate the benefits of walking and biking.
Walk to School Day is an annual event to encourage families to walk or bike ride safely to school. Many families enjoy their mornings together as they walk daily. This is a great opportunity for students to see alternatives that are healthy for the family and environment. It is also an excellent way to model appropriate pedestrian behaviors including using crosswalks, staying on the sidewalk, obeying the rules of the road, and being aware of your surroundings.
The PTA will be supporting group walks to school from 3 different starting points. This should be an enjoyable walk. Please feel free to make signs and a lot of noise for the walk. Students usually begin gathering at the designated locations by 8:30 and plan to begin their walk by 8:40 am. We hope parents can join their children for this special day to make it a festive event.
We invite all students (and families) to join in community walks (or rolls). We often have visitors such as the Mayor, Council Members, Firefighters, Police Officers and other community figures join the walk. We encourage excitement, signs celebrating the event, and lots of noise to attract attention! Beall PTA Parents will be facilitating walks from several locations. More information will be shared next week.

We would like to present you with an opportunity to register your son or daughter in a free tutoring program. GenerationZ is an organization of Richard Montgomery High School students who all share the same goal of bettering the community by encouraging learning and offering extra help outside the classroom. Tutoring takes place at local public libraries, or in a virtual format, and is offered for a variety of subjects. Our tutors can offer help in a wide variety of subjects, including math, grammar, reading, writing, science, social studies, and several foreign languages. REMINDER: Volunteers must be on the Approved Volunteer List.
We are excited to be able to welcome parent volunteers back to the building! In order to volunteer at Beall (or any other MCPS school), you must be on the approved volunteer list. All volunteers must sign-in at the main office.

- Parents must complete the required modules every three years. Information can be found in the ParentVue Portal. Additional guidance will be linked on the Beall Webpage --> Principal's Newsletter.
- Volunteers are currently welcomed to support lunch and outdoor recess. Volunteering at Beall during the school day lets you get to know your childβs friends by chatting with children during lunch or facilitating soccer, basketball, other games or activities during your child's outdoor recess period. Your presence as a volunteer also provides additional adult support to our school and helps to ensure safety during recess.
- Parents interested in volunteering in the classroom should contact their child's teacher directly. Many teachers will have volunteer opportunities beginning in October. All classroom volunteers must be scheduled in advance.
- In addition to completing the required MCPS modules, all volunteers must sign-in at the Main Office before reporting to lunch, recess, or another building location.
NAACP Representative- Beall is currently looking for a parent to serve as our NAACP representative. All NAACP parent meetings are on Zoom. This is a great opportunity to get involved with community advocacy. If you are interested, please contact Mr. Alter for more information.
Can my child use their Apple Watch at school?
MCPS revised and updated the policy that regulates the use of Personal Mobile Devices (PMD) that include cell phones, Apple Watches, iPads, headphones, etc. The major change is that students may possess PMDs on MCPS property and at MCPS-sponsored activities; but may not turn them on until the end of the school day for independent use with a few exceptions. At the elementary level, these types of devices are allowed before or after the student day, but are prohibited for instructional use, during lunch/recess periods, and between classes/transitional time. It is especially important that parents avoid calling their child on their phones or watches during the school day. Students must understand that they may not use their phone cameras or other recording devices to create videos or take pictures of other students, as this may violate other MCPS policies.
As a reminder, MCPS will assume no responsibility or liability for loss, damage, or theft to a device or for the unauthorized use of any personal device.

It is not too late to join the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The PTA supports Beall students in a variety of ways, including after -school programs, cultural arts programs, social activities, fundraising and parent workshops. The PTA also supports student learning by funding programs, technology and staff support. See their website for more information or registration forms.
