Attendance Reminders
Attendance Reminders - we must have a phone call (812-288-4844), an email (mjones@gccschools.com), a document from an appointment, or a doctor’s note to excuse a student’s absence. If we do not receive any of these, your student’s absence will be counted as unexcused. Please notify us if your student will not be at school.
99 Pledges Fundraiser for Parkview PRIDE Program
Dear Parents,
We could not engage in the amazing learning opportunities and the fun things we do here at Parkview without your support. Our PRIDE program strives to teach and positively reinforce the work ethic skills necessary for students to succeed in school and in life. To do this, we need to raise money to help fund the programs and incentives we want to offer our students such as field trips, random redemption drawings, game room items, etc.
We are excited to streamline our fundraiser by going online with 99Pledges. You will be able to reach out to friends and family by email, Facebook, and Twitter, instead of going door-to-door, tracking commitments, and handling checks.
You will receive an email with a link to your child’s online pledge page. You do not need to log in or change anything. All you have to do is make a donation for whatever amount you can, and share your participant's link with friends and family. We are shooting for 100% participation so no amount is too small.
If you do not receive the email for whatever reason, simply search and find your child’s pledge page here: www.99pledges.com/fund/parkviewmi2
Here is some sample sharing text:
" NAME is participating in a fundraiser, and would love your support. If you'd like to donate, you can do so online at the following link: YOUR PLEDGE PAGE LINK "

ILEARN Checkpoints
The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) is piloting three ILEARN Checkpoint assessments for grades 3-8 in the 2024-2025 school year. These Checkpoints are a new component of the LEARN through-year assessment for English/Language Arts and Mathematics, which will be given to all students in Indiana beginning with the 2025-2026 school year. Your child’s school will participate in the pilot program this year. The Checkpoints will take place in fall, winter, and spring. Each test has 20-25 questions and will show how your child is doing in key areas of the Indiana Academic Standards, helping guide teaching and supports your child's learning. More information can be found here: https://content.govdelivery.com/attachments/INDOE/2024/08/23/file_attachments/2976310/ILEARN%20Checkpoint%20Guidance%20for%20Families%20-%20All%20Grades%20%286%29.pdf

Title I Information
Parents,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year. We are so delighted to have your child at Parkview. In years past during Open House we had several documents to give you and some for you to sign. The past couple of years required some creativity in that process and we are being allowed to do this digitally again this year. This makes it quick and easy for you to complete. Please click the link below. It opens up a Google Form and you will provide your name, your child’s name, and answer a few questions as you read a couple of attached documents. This is part of a requirement we have as a Title I school. We truly appreciate you taking the time to read and answer the questions in this document.
If you have any questions, you may contact Chelsea Schowe (Math Coach/Academic Intervention Coordinator) at cschowe@gccschools.com or Heather Gianfagna (Principal) at hgianfagna@gccschools.com.
We truly appreciate your timely completion of this form. Thank you!
Student Handbook
A copy of the 2024-205 Parkview Student Handbook can be found at pvms.gccschools.com. Here are a few reminders:
- Daily attendance of all students who are enrolled in the Greater Clark County Schools is required in accordance with state law and corporation policy. Students are expected to attend school regularly in order to derive maximum benefits from the instructional program. The responsibility for regular school attendance by a student rests with the student and his/her parent or legal guardian. If a student will be absent, please call 812-288-4844 and ask for the attendance secretary.
- If your student will be taking medication during the school day, the medication form must be completed with school nurse. All medication must be brought to the (front/health) office and taken there. All medication, which includes over-the-counter, cough drops, and prescription medications, must have a written physician’s order.
- Students are allowed to bring cell phones to school, but must keep them turned off and put away. Parkview Middle is an “Away for the Day” school. You can find more information on this at https://www.awayfortheday.org/. Students needing to call home during the school day must do so in the main office during lunch or in the classroom with his/her teacher’s permission. Cell phones are never to be used to take photos or videos at school. Students failing to abide by this policy will result in school consequences.
Fall Sports Picture Day - Monday, September 16th
Fall Sports will have their pictures taken after school on Monday, September 16th. Fall Sports include Football, Cheer, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross Country, and Boys Tennis. Team pictures for the yearbook will be photographed, as well as anyone purchasing individual sport pictures.
CharacterStrong
Dear Families,
We are so grateful you are a part of the school community this year. One of the aims at our school is to equip young people for all the realities of today’s world. With that in mind, we have partnered with CharacterStrong - an organization that provides training for educators and social & emotional learning curriculum for students. This is a continuation of their Purposeful People curriculum students in GCCS partake in grades PK-5. Their work in grades 6-12 focus on 3 main outcomes: increasing a sense of belonging for all students, improving skills that support student well-being, and deepening student engagement in their academics, in their school, and in their community.
Here’s what the data tells us:
• A sense of belonging in school is one of the most important conditions for learning and a fundamental support for social and emotional well-being. Nearly ⅓ of all students report a weak sense of belonging in their schools. Roughly half of 6th - 12th grade students say they don’t enjoy coming to school most of the time.
• Mental health challenges for teens have been increasing and 7 out of 10 teens in the U.S. (between 13 and 17 years old) have named anxiety or depression as a major problem among their peers.
• Student engagement drives learning and supports school success.
This curriculum was created to support school communities as they engage in the work of preparing young people to thrive in the 21st century. The research supports the effectiveness of social & emotional learning in schools to increase student’s academic success and college & career readiness. The curriculum helps students think about things they want to improve in their school, their relationships, and their world and then provides tools for them to work individually and in teams to close the gaps they’ve identified.

21st Century Scholars
The 21st Century Scholars program is a wonderful opportunity for eligible students to get four years of free college tuition. All 8th grade students that are enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program are automatically enrolled in the 21st Century program as well. However, I know we have students that are eligible for free/reduced lunch that don’t complete the application process, so I want to make sure everyone is aware of this opportunity. Please go to the link below to see the income eligibility guidelines and the enrollment process. If you feel your student may be eligible, click on ‘Create an Account’ in the green box. Once you have created an account, apply for the program. If you need any help at all, please reach out and I will be happy to assist. Thank you.
