Message From Our Principal
On Monday we held our first leadership awards assembly of the school year, during the assembly we recognized students for showing respect. We also had the opportunity to introduce our new character trait for the month of October, we will be focusing on Responsibility. One way to define Responsibility is “taking action and understanding the impact of our choices.” Taking action can mean doing the right thing or completing the tasks you have been assigned. Understanding the impact of our choices means that our actions matter. Positive and responsible actions can help people and irresponsible actions can hurt others.
Below are three ideas that you can use to talk to your child about responsibility this month:
As a family, think of ways in which you might make someone’s life a little easier by helping a neighbor or family friend with 1 of their Responsibilities. Could you bring the garbage to the chute or out to the curb? Could you carry things in from the grocery store? Could you invite someone over for a meal or a show?
Review Responsibility as a family! Choose 1 household chore (or more!) that requires multiple steps. Then have each member of the family select 1 step to complete to help get the job done! Maybe it is washing the dishes, doing laundry, cleaning the living room, or unloading the groceries - whatever it is, see who can be the quickest or most effective at their task!
We have all demonstrated Responsibility in our lives. Many of us have seen people practice Responsibility in ways that have inspired us. Stories are powerful tools for connecting as a family. Protect time this week to share stories about Responsibility with each other (you can use the story prompts to get started). At the end of the conversation, think of 1 way you can practice Responsibility this week.
Story Prompts:
● A time I (or someone else) showed Responsibility was _____.
● An act of Responsibility that changed/challenged me was ______.

Family Assistance at LRE
Hello Thunder Eagle families!! My name is Andrea Grant, and this is my fifth year as your school counselor at LRE. One of my roles is community coordinator, meaning I get to connect people with the services they need! We have a variety of community assistance available to any student and family in need. We have partnerships with The Bonney Lake Food Bank, Operation Warm, Dorian Studios, The Big Give, Giving Tree, SBLSD Family Center, and more! Please use this survey to sign up for community resources if it would benefit your family.
Additionally, you may also use this form if you are interested in sponsoring a student for our LRE Holiday Giving Tree and I will contact you in November when it is up and running :)
Changes to Meal Programs
This school year, there are some important changes to meal prices. A national school meal waiver that provided free meals for all students due to the pandemic expired over the summer. This means that meals are no longer free for everyone.
We encourage families who may be eligible to apply for free meals. Applications can be found at sumnersd.org/meals.
Copies of forms are being sent home with all students in their folders and are now available in Spanish, Ukrainian, and Russian.
Keep Your Child Home When:
- The Student has tested positive for, or is waiting on a test for COVID-19
- The student has been told to self isolate or quarantine by public health or a medical professional
- Any of these symptoms are present:
Fever of 100.4 or higher
Cough- frequent and persistent
Loss of taste or smell
Shortness of breath
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea, diarrhea or vomiting
