Measurement Unit!
This week we have started our unit on Measurement. In this unit we will focus on three main topics:
-Height and Length (Chapter 9)
-Weight (Chapter 10 book 1B)
-Graphs (Chapter 11 book 1b)
After each of the three topics, the students will take a quiz! We will be focusing on the vocabulary words associated with each, estimating, collecting data, and making logical connections to the real world! This is a very hands-on unit for the students, and one that many enjoy!
Graphs!
In this chapter your child will learn how to interpret bar graphs, picture graphs (pictographs), and tally charts. Collecting and organizing data in graphs and tally charts is a math skill which makes it easier to understand amounts or data. Students will learn how to collect and analyze the data they have collected. They will use addition and subtraction to answer questions about their data collected. For example:
- How many more students like blue than green?
- How many fewer students like red than green?
- How many students like red and blue?
- Which color has the most? Which color has the least?
Happy Graphing! :)
