Forest Lane Monday Memo
Monday, November 11th - Friday, November 15th
Greetings from the Principal
This Monday, November 11, our Forest Lane students have the opportunity to attend the district's annual Veterans Day Program. Whether it's our Kindergartners performing patriotic songs or our sixth grade students sharing their flag projects, Forest Lane students represent our school well. It is a great opportunity for our school and community to honor those who have served our country.
Service to others can take on many different forms within our families and at our school. Some classes have made Veterans Day cards for our local veterans. Our students have visited the Montello Care Center to connect with its residents. Local businesses work with our school to provide opportunities for our students to see a bakery, for example, in action. These connections, and many more, are what make Forest Lane Community School a great place to connect our students with the community. This week, I encourage your family to think of ways that you already connect with our community through the acts of service you do. I know that Forest Lane families watch out for their elderly neighbors and volunteer at the cat shelter. Your family's time and money are spent supporting the clothing closet and the library. Our volunteer fire department does not exist without the volunteers coming from our community.
On Monday, we will celebrate our friends and family for their military service. Let's continue to celebrate them every day of the year by continuing to support each other and our community.
Have a great week!
Mr. Stelter

Message from Nurse Jess
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please take a minute at home to discuss the importance of handwashing as we are heading into "cold and flu season". Many germs that can make people sick are spread when we don’t wash our hands with soap and clean, running water. That is why handwashing is crucial, especially at key times such as after using the bathroom, when preparing food, before eating, and after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose.
Handwashing with soap and water is simple, inexpensive, and can significantly reduce the number of people who get sick. Studies show that effective hand washing can:
Reduce the number of people who get sick with diarrhea by about 23%–40%
Reduce the number of school days children missed because of gastrointestinal illness by 29%–57%
Reduce diarrheal illness in people with weakened immune systems by about 58%
Reduce respiratory illnesses, like colds, in the general population by about 16%–21%
Thank you,
