From the Desk of Mrs. Pendleton...
Greetings PHMS Students and Families,
Thank you for sharing your children with us! We had a great first week of middle school. Our Friday ended the week with an outdoor celebration in the yard with popsicles.
- Missing Work Notifications: Students will start having more assignments in classes. Please remember, if your student doesn't complete an assignment you will receive a text and email with details.
Keep positive, provide time and help at home, and please know lifeguards will be helping them at school each and everyday. We want your student to know that ICU Intensive Care Unit) means you need help and/or time; it doesn't mean you are in trouble. We want all students to complete all assignments this year. You will only get at text/email if your student is missing something and when that work has been completed.
If you need me to change any of your phone/email notifications from the Missing Work List, please reach out to our office.
- School Pictures: All students will have school pictures taken on Friday-If you wish to order, please see the information below.
- Attendance: Student attendance is essential for academic growth! We are having some extra rewards for good attendance this year at PHMS. Emails will be sent when your student is absent. Please call office or email by 9:00 AM
- Negative Lunch Balance Emails: You will get an email when your child's lunch balance is negative $10. Please send money or see below...
- Free/Reduced Lunch Applications: If you wish for your child to participate in this program for the 24-25 school year, please complete the application online or on paper. Just What We All Needed... The Power of the ICU!
New for 2024-2025:
At Pleasant Hope Middle School, we want all students to complete all assignments in order to learn! We will use the Power of the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) this year to help us better monitor missing work.
Here’s how the Power of the ICU system works:
- Teachers post missing work on the ICU database. Parents/Guardians will get a text and email alert. Alerts only sent for missing work. The text just notifies and the email lists the assignments and any links provided.
- This will be the tool that provides accurate information about missing assignments! No more trying to figure out missing assignments using Google Classroom and/or the parent portal.
- Once completed and approved by the teacher, coach, or staff member, the assignment will be removed from the ICU list within 24 hours. Please note: The removed assignment may not be graded at that time, but this will show the entire team that the work is complete. Parents/Guardians will get a text and email notification stating the assignment has been completed.
- If a student reaches 5 or more missing assignments (Definitely in need of the ICU!) then one of our Lifeguards (faculty/staff) will meet with the student and ask the student the following questions… 1) Who do you owe? 2) What do you owe? 3) What do you need? 4) How can I help?
- Once this conversation takes place, a plan for completing work will be put into motion. ICU Study Halls with classroom teachers will be available before school, during breakfast, during the school day, during lunch, after school, and during practices.
For those not on the list, “Pop Up” rewards/trips/events will occur weekly and monthly to encourage responsibility, time management, and quality of work. The Power of the ICU program will benefit all those on the team!
PHMS 2024-2025 Academic Goal: Every Student Completes Every Assignment!
PHMS Smart Classrooms Project
Pleasant Hope Middle School was recently awarded a $5000 grant to help purchase Smart Tvs for its classrooms. This gracious gift allowed two classrooms to be equipped with new interactive panels on wheels. These Smart Tvs help our teachers make lessons more interactive, engaging, and applicable for our tech savvy middle schoolers. We are thankful to the Community Foundations of the Ozarks Rural Schools Partnership and the Coover Charitable Foundation for helping us begin our Smart Classroom Project at PHMS. Our hope is to install Smart Tvs in all classrooms in the near future. Thank you CFO!
