Thank you all for a successful parent-teacher conference week! This coming Wednesday, October 24th all 10th grade students will take the PSAT. Please send your student to school rested and with a couple of no. 2 pencils. Friday there will be no school due to fall break. Students taking the October 27 ACT should report to their testing center (which is most likely Cedar) at 7:45 AM. Students will need their testing ticket, a form of identification, number 2 pencils, and a calculator.

All tenth graders will take the PSAT Wednesday, October 24th. Students who are testing should bring no. 2 pencils. All other testing materials will be provided.

The ASVAB will be administered at Cedar Shoals High School November 7, 2018 from 9 a.m. until Noon. The ASVAB is used to assist students with career exploration, identify a potential career path, and to determine which branch of the military you are qualified to enlist in. Please stop by the Counseling Office to sign up. It's FREE.

Junior Parent Night will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Cedar Shoals High School at 6 p.m. This meeting will cover important information and various opportunities to help make your senior year successful. Please make plans to join us.

Class of 2019, Senior dues are $80. You are welcome to make payments of at least $20 as long as the full amount is paid by the due date. There will be no refunds. They include the Senior Breakfast, Senior Picnic, Senior T-shirt, and other apparel. If you are interested in participating in these activities, someone will be available outside of the cafeteria to collect these funds on October 2 & 16th, November 2nd & 16th, December 3 & 18th. No dues will be accepted after December. Please pay your dues before the deadline. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Willis in Room A203.

Girls Basketball Tryouts are Monday, October 22nd (3:45 - 6:00). You must have a current physical on file prior to tryouts. See Coach Wall if you have any questions and/or concerns (wallta@clarke.k12.ga.us)

The student section along with Mrs. Zimpfer and Relay for Life would like to invite you to "PINK OUT" Loganville next Thursday Night. All proceeds from the Official Cedar Shoals Pink Out shirts will go to Relay for Life. Our student section will be dressed in all Pink, and we would love to have you join us (if only in spirit and shirt color).

You can pick up an official Pink Out shirt in the JagXchange Thursday all day before the game. We will also have some shirts for sale at the gate for the game.

Humane Society Club will hold a meeting Wednesday, October 24th at 3:40 in A109. Please see Ms. Martin if you have any questions.

First FCA will meet October 19 at 8:00 a.m. in room B208. If students have any questions the can contact Mr. Chatmon or Coach Ray.

HoPe Club will be hosting a Pot Luck dinner on Thursday, October 25th in the Jag Center. Please see Dr. Perez Rhym if you have any questions.

The Help a Child Smile Mobile Dental van will be at Cedar Shoals High School on January 9, 2019. If you have not yet filled out the form, please complete the form below and turn it in to Nurse Eve.

The Blood Drive will be Tuesday, October 30th from 8:30 until 2:00 p.m. in the AB200 commons area at Cedar Shoals High School. There is always a need for blood in this area so all of our donations will go to the nearby hospitals. A one unit donation can save 3 lives. You must be at least 16 years old and show a picture ID.

The Cavaliers’ Club of Athens will award a $500.00 cash scholarship to a graduating high school student who meets the criteria listed in the attached document The applicant will be judged on academic achievement, community service, school involvement, and letters of recommendation. Please complete the application by March 1, 2019.

Please see the attached letter from Walton EMC that tells you about the Walton EMC Scholarship. Eleven scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded for 2019. The scholarship application postmark deadline is Friday, January 18, 2019.

Golden Door is a nonprofit scholarship organization which provides large college scholarships to high performing students with DACA. This year we are excited to announce that we will award the scholarship to up to 50 students across the country attending college in Fall 2019 who are interested in Computer Science, Tech, Data Science, Engineering, Math or similar fields. These fields are diverse, growing quickly, high paying and have low barriers to entry for DACA recipients. In addition to funding, Golden Door provides 1:1 mentorship and summer internships. The Youth Leadership Academy aims to develop in today’s young people the leadership skills and community awareness necessary to become the next generation of future leaders. They are looking for 10th and 11th grade students who are:

• Existing youth leaders who want to further develop their leadership skills and channel those skills toward helping others and improving their community.
• Emerging youth leaders who want to expand their leadership skills and take a more active leadership role focused on helping others and improving their community.
• Prospective youth leaders who want to explore their own potential leadership abilities to develop leadership skills focused on helping others and improving their community.

The 19th annual Latino Youth Leadership Conference will be held on November 10th at Kennesaw State University. Join us for an exciting day full of high energy, inspiration, motivational speakers, practical tips for college, workshops, and a College and Career Fair for Georgia Latino middle and high school students, parents, teachers, and volunteers.

The Zeta Beta Beta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. sponsors a yearly essay contest for all High School College Bound Seniors. The first place winner wins $200 and the 2nd place winner wins $100. The 1st place winner's essay will then be forwarded to participate on the state level and the national level, and possibly win a $5000 scholarship. The deadline for the essay contest is October 19,2018. Please see the flyer attached for more information.

The state of Georgia funds 42 scholarship each year to Georgia students interested in joining the Georgia Army National Guard and the University of North Georgia Corps of Cadets. This means you can still have a full time job after graduating from college and be a part of the National Guard. Recipients of the University of North Georgia Military Scholarship (UNGMS) are even able to make $30,000-40,000 during their four years of college as a Cadet. This scholarship covers room, meals, tuition, books, uniforms, and fees andis worth over $70,000.

The Jack Cooke Kent Foundation Scholarship goes live on September 6th! This scholarship is open until November 20th. What type of candidates are they looking for? Cooke Scholarship recipients are selected from a nationwide applicant pool each year. As a minimum criteria, students must:

• Plan to graduate from a U.S. high school in spring 2019

• Intend to enroll full time in an accredited 4-year college in fall 2019

• Earn a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above in high school

• Receive a minimum SAT total of 1200 or ACT composite of 26

• Demonstrate financial need. We will consider applicants with family income up to $95,000. Last year’s cohort of new scholarship recipients had a median family income of approximately $26,000.

Georgia Business Aviation Association has Scholarship opportunities available for those students interested in pursuing a Career in Business Aviation.
