Board of Education Regular Meeting, January 16, 2024
Superintendent Report
Superintendent Dr. Kristine Michael introduced Mrs. Warren, Director of Curriculum, who presented key findings from the Ohio State Report Card for the 2022-2023 academic year. She highlighted the school's performance in Gap Closing, with notable achievements in Math and English Language Arts (ELA). The report also focused on the Gifted Component, where Northridge demonstrated commendable results.
Superintendent Michael also shared an update on the new district branding noting the logo’s significance to the community and also the district’s need to address the necessity to circumvent potential legal issues stemming from its resemblance to the Minnesota Vikings logo. This update aims to strengthen the Northridge brand and foster a deeper sense of pride among students, staff, and alumni.
She also commented on the ongoing stadium construction project. Already in January, underground plumbing for the concession stands has begun, as has grading for the track, and preparation for the turf field. She noted that it is exciting to see this project come to life.
Building Report
Northridge Elementary School: NRE is excited to introduce two new clubs: Creative Classes will be bringing Eager Engineering for grades K-5, and Sewing for grades 4-5. Additionally, the Lifewise initiative is set to commence, with children in grades 3-5 starting this week and grades K-2 beginning on February 1st. Over 80 students have already registered.
Northridge Middle School: NMS Teams are applying strategies learned from Margaret Searle on MTSS and Tom Fry regarding district-wide assessments. Additionally, the school is fully implementing the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) expectations aligned with the '7 Viking Values.' Students exhibiting qualities like Respect, Accountability, and Safety, or embodying the Viking Values, are recognized by staff with tickets. These tickets, redeemable for a treat, are part of a strategy to immediately reward and encourage positive behavior, reinforcing a constructive school culture.
Northridge High School: At NHS, the Teacher-Based Teams (TBTs) and Building Leadership Team (BLT) have initiated a focus on resilience skills. A recent session addressed how to develop these skills, tackling questions about encouraging resilience in classrooms, identifying the lack of resilience, and setting goals for resilience building in the third quarter. Additionally, the school generated second nine weeks honor rolls and will analyze various data points like discipline referrals and honor roll achievements. Upcoming TBT work sessions will incorporate the Save One - Give One MTSS strategy and department sessions utilizing heat maps by Tom Fry. McDonald's incentives for honor roll students are also being prepared for distribution.

The Board extended its heartfelt thanks for two significant donations that will enrich our school programs:
The Music Boosters' generous contribution of $13,589.00 has enabled the purchase of two King Sousaphones.
A collaborative donation from Red 1 Realty, US Bank, and MVP Insurance Agency has provided valuable support, reflecting our community's strong commitment to the school's success.
The Board also approved the calendars for both the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years. They can be found here. It also approved the purchase of two Ventrac Tractors to aid in snow removal, mowing, and turf maintenance for campus properties. Furthermore, they have approved allocating interest from COPs Investments towards purchasing equipment for the stadium.
