Message From Superintendent Mueller
Good Afternoon, CUSD!
As we celebrate all of our certificated and classified staff during the month of May it is a great opportunity to pause and appreciate the dedicated people that share the day with your children. Our staff, from the front office to the classroom to the lunchroom to the playground, work hard to provide a supportive environment where students feel connected, challenged, and championed to and by our amazing staff.
I am proud to work with professionals who embrace their respective roles within CUSD. Thank you to our dedicated certificated staff who inspire by modeling curiosity and creativity. I’d like to also express gratitude to our classified colleagues who provide critical resources and ensure that our district is operating with efficiency while keeping our students healthy, our facilities safe and clean and technology supported.
Congratulations to our 2024 Classified Employees of the Year who will be honored at the Governing Board meeting next Thursday: Arden Gillberg, CHS and also CUSD Classified Employee of the year; Frankie Guillen, Silver Strand; Lani Shanefelt, Village; Liz Josset, CMS; Jorge Mejia, Maintenance & Operations. Read more about these amazing employees here.
Hopefully everyone interested in joining many of our CHS club members and sharing in our clean water advocacy letter-writing campaign has found an opportunity to do so. The deadline to submit letters for our mass-delivery to Sacramento is next Wednesday, May 15. You can write your own or download and fill-in our template letter. Please drop off all letters to the box in the lobby of the District Office by Wednesday.
Our registration numbers for next year are still less than 50%. Please help us plan and budget for staff and programs by letting us know whether or not your child will be returning to CUSD schools next year. REGISTER HERE!
Enjoy a safe and relaxing weekend.

Caught Being Awesome!
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- Gloria Sanchez works well to support students in the classroom. She is always ready to step in when she notices a student needs support. She is always available to do whatever it takes to make students feel safe and welcome.
- Eileen Rodriguez Works tirelessly daily to provide a fun, safe, and positive learning environment for our preschool students.
- Quinn Beske Works hard in the preschool classroom by guiding students in fun and educational activities and building relationships with them.
- Claudeth Serrano is a valuable member of the preschool team. She steps in when and where she is needed and provides excellent care and guidance for our preschoolers.
- Almaz Abbay is caring and warm to our preschool students. She provides great support in the classroom and steps in to help in many ways. As a one-on-one, she makes sure that a particular student is cared for and has their needs met while also helping the other students.
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
Mobile Device Protection Plan for Families With CUSD Chromebooks
If your student has a CUSD issued Chromebook, you are encouraged to review and consider purchasing the OPTIONAL Mobile Device Protection Plan (MDPP) for the 2023-2024 school year. The annual plan is designed to cover accidental damage of CUSD Chromebooks including screen breakage. In addition, the plan will protect against spills, fire, flood, natural disasters, and theft/loss. Mobile hotspots, power cords, cables, and other accessories are not covered. Intentional damage, improper device storage, and misuse are not covered.
The cost of the plan is $20 per device per year. The plan must be purchased annually at the beginning of each school year or at the time of registration to be valid. To maintain coverage, a new plan must also be purchased if a student is provided with a replacement device due to damage/loss of their previous device. This money will be used to create a dedicated pool of funding to replace or repair covered technology. All money collected through the program will go into a special account that can only be used to replace or repair technology that is covered in the plan. We highly recommend this low-cost protection plan. To purchase a Mobile Device Protection Plan for your student, please use the instructions at the following link: Mobile Device Protection Plan Purchase Instructions.
