Japanese Exchange Program - Aug 8th thru 18th - SAVE THE DATES
We are excited to announce that we are bringing back our Japanese Student Exchange program this summer! And we are looking for 15 host families to provide homes for students from August 8-18th. Here are some details:
- Opportunity to bring an international experience into your home.
- Short homestays offer a great chance to get to know a new friend from across the Pacific.
- Learn about Japanese and (yes, your own) culture, customs, and food in your own home.
- Host families need not do anything special or out of the ordinary during the visit: they are here to experience normal life in your home...
- Muddy Creek will provide a $100 food stipend to offset some of the expense. We will also help coordinate some student activities while they are here.
Please have a look at the attached flyer for more details. And Contact Lester Oehler for more information or to sign up: 541-602-0605, lhenricko@gmail.com

Ants on a Log Dine-OUT - April 17th
Classroom Shout-OUTs!
Author Study in Library
During the year all classes participate in an Author Study in Library. We read 3-4 books by the same author and discuss what we notice and wonder about, while making connections not just between the books, but also to our own experiences and reader preferences. Students discover fantastic authors and increase their reading comprehension processes: win-win!
Puddle Hunting in Kinder
Kindergarten is exploring water! We have been putting on our boots and searching the school yard for puddles and groundwater. All our kinder engineers are using our powers of observation to learn how water moves, cycles, and flows.

Restoration & Decomposition
We have started our creek restoration and composting projects this month. Our goal in the creek restoration project is to restore the "Little Muddy Creek" back to what it was so that it can flow again. So far, we have mapped the creek to see what we need to do in order to get it flowing again. Next, we will plan with our buddy class, 1st grade to set up a restoration plan! Our goal in the composting project is to encourage environmental awareness at muddy creek alongside creating healthy compost to use in our garden!
Storytelling through song!
Students in 4th grade music this month were discussing storytelling in songs through their lyrics. After being asked to visualize the story told through the vivid and imaginative lyrics from this beloved 60s tune, students were asked to select a lyric that stood out to them and make a drawing of it. See if you can guess the song (no cheating)!
State Testing for 3rd, 4th, & 5th
Smarter Balanced testing for 3rd-5th graders is coming up in April and May! Teachers will be in touch with information on how you can prepare for these annual assessments soon. Although we are hoping all our older muskrats will participate, here is the information on how to opt-your kiddos out of the testing if you so desire. Corvallis 509j State Testing Opt-Out Form
