Miners in the Middle

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we head into midterm week, I want to share some important details to help guide you and your students through the next few days. For our 6th-grade students, this will be their first experience with midterm exams, and for families new to our district, it might also be a new experience. Midterms account for 10% of each student's overall semester grade, so it's important for everyone to approach them prepared and confident.

To help our students succeed, we have spread the exams over two days. Here is the schedule:

• Wednesday, October 9: Midterms for Math, History/Social Studies, and any electives during odd-numbered class periods (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th hours).
• Thursday, October 10: Midterms for ELA/Reading/Writing, Science, and electives during even-numbered class periods (2nd, 4th, 6th hours).

Friday, October 11 will be a non-school day for students as we have a scheduled staff work day.

Please encourage your student(s) to do their best by reviewing their materials, getting a good night’s sleep, and starting their day with a healthy breakfast. These simple steps can make a big difference in performance.

Staff Work Day - No School for Students

These are our school-wide expectations for our students. Positive behavior fosters an environment where ALL students can learn and grow. It is our hope that our HMS families will discuss our school-wide behavior expectations and encourage positive behaviors at school and home.

Our school-wide expectations extend beyond the classroom. It is important that students also realize they are accountable for their behaviors in the hallway, cafeteria and at all school sponsored activities on and off campus.
