The CVUSD is committed to providing a safe and caring learning environment where all students belong and are valued members of our school community. If you directly experience or witness bullying, racism, discrimination, intimidation, and/or harassment by a student, staff, or community member while at school or during a school activity, we encourage you to report this to your school site. If reporting to your school site staff feels uncomfortable or unsafe, you are encouraged to submit a confidential report via WeTip.
WeTip is available 24/7 and can be used to report crimes, unsafe conduct, or concerns about people who may harm themselves or others. Through WeTip members of our CVUSD community can easily and confidentially submit reports in four different ways:

The opportunity to confidentially report is for all members of our CVUSD community (students, family members, staff, etc.). Posters and flyers with this WeTip information are also available on your school campus, and a direct link to the WeTip Online Form is available on the homepages of all of our CVUSD school websites.

Save the Date: School & Community Resource Fair for Families of Students w/ IEPs
The CVUSD Special Education Department invites families of students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to join them at the CVUSD hosted Resources Fair on Wednesday, February 19th from 9am to 10:30am in the University Center MPR (2801 Atlas Avenue, Thousand Oaks). CVUSD staff including CVUSD school psychologists, and BCBAs, as well as representatives from community agencies/resources such as Goodwill Industries, Rainbow Connection and Tri-Counties Regional Center and more, will provide tables of information. This will also be a great opportunity to learn more about community resources and have any questions that you may have answered.
CVUSD Parents/Guardians, please join our BreakThrough Student Assistance Program and the Conejo Schools Foundation for a workshop on Online Safety presented by members of the Ventura County District Attorney, FBI and local law enforcement. This free, in-person event will take place on Tuesday, February 18th from 6pm to 7:30pm at University Center (2801 Atlas Avenue, Thousand Oaks).
This workshop will review online safety with tips and best practices for how to protect your children. Online safety is crucial in today's digital world, where kids and teens face risks like cyberbullying, scams, and harmful content. A serious issue is sextortion, where someone uses threats to get explicit material or money. Parents can help by keeping communication open, teaching safe online habits, and using privacy settings and parental controls. Together, families can create a safer internet experience for their children.
The Newbury Park High School Public Safety Pathway offers a comprehensive two-course program including a course that has recently been approved by the Ventura County EMS agency to offer a path toward state certification as an EMT. The program is taught by Casey Graham and is divided into two main courses: Emergency Medical First Responder and Emergency Medical Technician.
The first course in the pathway, titled Emergency First Responder, is based on the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) curriculum for Emergency Medical Responders, alongside curriculum from the American Red Cross. This course equips students with foundational skills for providing emergency medical care. Embedded within the course are certifications from the American Red Cross, including the “California Bundle Five.” This bundle is specifically designed to meet California's Title 22 regulations for EMS training. Students who successfully complete the certifications offered in this course and are above the age of 15 are certified as Red Cross Pool Lifeguards.
The second course in the pathway is Emergency Medical Technician. This course prepares students for state certification as EMTs, which is a requirement for employment with ambulance companies, fire/rescue departments, and ocean lifeguard/harbor patrol agencies in Ventura County. The course includes both classroom instruction and hands-on training. A key feature of the EMT course is a contract with American Medical Response (AMR), allowing 18-year-old students to participate in 24 hours of clinical field experience.
During this field experience, students gain real-world exposure to emergency medical situations, working alongside experienced EMTs in the field. This is the first year with this clinical field experience component. Currently, Mr. Graham has 6 students who will be 18 and qualified to pursue testing and licensure. Upon successful completion of the course and field experience, students are eligible to take the two-part exam administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). The exam consists of:
- A psychomotor portion, which is performed in class under the supervision of the instructor.
- A written portion, which is taken at an NREMT testing center.
Mr. Graham estimates that 60-75% of his public safety students intend to pursue a career in fire or medical fields. In the current EMT capstone course there are several students already utilizing these skills in the field through the Westminster Clinic, State Parks, and Ventura County Explorers. Additionally, some of his senior students are interested in pursuing the Navy as Corpsman, the medical professionals who provide care to service members and their families.
The program is a collaborative effort, with teachers, administrators, clinical supervisors, and students all contributing to its success. Funding for the program is primarily grant-based. Conejo Valley was recently awarded funds from round six of the Strong Workforce Grant for Healthcare and Public Safety which NPHS will utilize to expand this program to include a dedicated lab space and possibly new technology to enhance the experience for all students within this pathway.

Last week, our elementary scholars reached a special milestone for this school year:
✔️ 100 days of learning.
✔️ 100 days of building friendships.
✔️ 100 days of growing as scholars!
To celebrate the 100th day of learning, schools hosted spirit dress-up days, completed fun counting-based activities, some had visits from Zero the Hero, and Cypress Elementary School held their annual tradition of, "ringing in the school days!" Each Cypress Elementary class had the opportunity to ring the 100-year-old Timber School bell on their campus...100 times!
