Eckville Elementary News - Parents
February 2025
This is the monthly Principal's message and school newsletter. It is a way to keep parents engaged and informed with what is happening at Eckville Elementary. It is sent out each month via email and is available on our website.
Principal's Message
BRRR! It's so cold!
This is another busy month as we have some more skating dates (thank you for your help!), pink shirt day, and social-emotional learning programs for three of our grades begin (details below). The February break with Family Day and Teachers' Convention comes up quick and we have another Theme and Canteen day at the end of the month (Crazy Hair Day!). Hopefully, when I write this for March we aren't looking at -36 with the wind chill for the next morning!
Thank you to our school council who always make our Hot Lunches go so smoothly, along with our school wide smoothies that were made for us on our Tropical Daze Theme day last week! School Council also gets a big thank you from the whole staff for supporting our lunch on the upcoming Eckville Elementary School Staff Wellness Day.
Thank you to all the parents and family members who were able to join us at either our month end assembly on January 27, our Family Literacy Day read in on the same afternoon, or our Tropical Daze assembly on January 30. We love our parents joining in the school when they can!
Thank you to Maureen Hansen who dontated a balance board game promoting core strength to the school! We know there are a lot of students who will enjoy trying it out!
Thank you to the Lawton Bros. for their donation of breakfast supplies along with Danielle Blair (Block Creek Mercantile), Kelly Lawton and Claudia Thomas for cooking breakfast for all our students on Valentines Day!
-Mr. Jay Cottell
School Visitors - Check In at Main Office
Just a reminder to everyone that all school visitors need to check in at the main office. When students are being picked up early, please come to the office and let us know, then we can call or walk down to the classroom. This helps limit classroom disruptions and lets us ensure we know who are always in the building as visitors, in case of an emergency.
Grade 6 Camp Fundraiser
I am delighted and surprised to inform you that we've raised an additional $622.25 for grade six camp from our battery round-up, with only a few families participating!
So... I'm thinking that if I put this out there one more time, we might get MORE batteries! Who knew those old batteries were so valuable?!
Again, please call Cheryl Slade at 403-341-0246 if you have some old batteries kicking around that you could donate to us. She can also be reached at cherylsladehair@gmail.com.
Mr. Libby
Winter Walk Day - Wednesday, February 5
It's a cold one this week, so we aren't organizing a big, whole school event for this. Instead, teachers will try to take their class out for a short walk close to the school.
All classes hope to make it out for a short community walk during the afternoon, if it warms up enough.
Winter Weather
Students need to be prepared for outdoor recesses and PE classes when walking to the arena for skating, starting this week. Please ensure students have appropriate winter clothing, as well as the required clothing for skating. Indoor recesses will be held when the temperature outside is below -25 C.
