HTHS Student Leaders Serve at Veterans Banquet
Four members of the HTHS Student Leadership Team served at the National Veterans Awards Banquet that was recently held at the Birmingham Sheraton on November 10. The HTHS Student Leadership Team serves as our school's Student Led Transition Team for students of military families. Paine Second Graders Honor Veterans
Paine Elementary students honored veterans and their families last Thursday and Friday with a special guest, ENS Libby Jackson of the United States Coast Guard Academy. ENS Jackson, the niece of music teacher Lesley Rogers, spoke to the audience about how important it is to honor those who serve our country. All second-grade classes participated in the program featuring songs thanking veterans and being proud of our country. Thanks to our Stem classes for creating a slide show featuring pictures of our veterans, and our amazing second grade and music teachers for working with these students and allowing them the opportunity to honor our veterans and guests!
Cahaba Honors Veterans with Drive Thru Parade
Cahaba Elementary School held its annual Veterans Day drive-through parade this week, a tradition that has become a cherished part of the school's calendar. What began as a small gesture to honor veterans during the challenges of COVID-19 has grown into a heartwarming event that brings students, families, and the greater community together in celebration of those
who have served our country.
Students, teachers, and staff lined the school’s grounds, dressed in vibrant red, white, and blue to show their patriotic spirit. Handmade posters adorned the school's walkways, each crafted with care by the students to honor the bravery and sacrifice of our veterans. As veterans passed by in the parade, students waved American flags and cheered, their faces beaming with pride and gratitude.
The event was further highlighted by special musical performances from the students, who sang heartfelt songs in honor of the veterans. Each grade level participated, filling the air with songs of respect and thanks for the heroes in our midst. The school’s show choir, “SHINE,” also performed a moving tribute on the historic porch of the school, under the direction of Tina Fortenberry. Their powerful voices echoed through the crisp November air, adding an
emotional touch to the day’s festivities.
This parade is a beautiful way for our school to give back to those who have given so much for our freedom. It’s been a tradition that has grown every year, and it’s a wonderful way for our students to connect with the community while learning the importance of honor, respect, and patriotism.
What started as a simple way to show appreciation during the pandemic has become an annual event that continues to grow in significance, drawing families, veterans, and community members together. For both the students and veterans, the parade serves as a powerful reminder
of the values that unite us all.
Cahaba Elementary is proud to continue this tradition and looks forward to many more years of honoring our nation’s heroes and bringing our school community closer together.

Students in Mrs. Cindy Burns' first grade class at Magnolia Elementary recently participated in a Braille book exploration. During this activity, which coincided with their studies of communication methods, students were introduced to a variety of Braille books. The Magnolia library has a set of Braille books thanks to the generosity of the Trussville City Schools Foundation which made the purchase of these books possible through a MUSH grant. Students also sampled using a Braille slate and stylus to form the letters in the word, "Magnolia". Thank you to Mrs. April Chamberlain and Mrs. Rachel Brockman, for providing the Braille slate and stylus during a STEM technology professional development session.

Cahaba Fifth Graders Research Colonial Regions
Cahaba’s 5th graders have been learning about the colonial era and early America periods. Our recent project tasked students with creating persuasive travel brochures highlighting one of three colonial regions: New England, Middle, or Southern. The brochures required our students to research key components such as geographical descriptions, cultural insights, an economic overview, religious influences, along with illustrations and photographs of the times. Students aimed to include compelling content that would entice readers to visit their selected region. Finally, students proceeded with sharing their brochures with others, hoping to persuade them to visit their region in colonial America.
