Our vision is to develop - happy achieving students and staff
A message from the Principal and Assistant Principal
Happy October to our CVE Families!
Thank you for partnering with us as we work together as a team to help our kids achieve great things!! CVE students have found their stride and are already working hard on their goals toward CVE’s Green and Growing this year!
Beginning of the Year Data…Yes, we grew to GREEN!
Our CVE teacher teams have reviewed both reading and math data from CMAS as well as our beginning of the year assessments in DIBELs and iREADY Reading & Math. We are excited to celebrate our overall growth in being a “performance school” (GREEN) on our state report card known as the SPF (School Performance Framework)! Teachers, Students, and Families worked hard to make this goal a reality.
Unfortunately, we are still seeing learning gaps within both reading and math, which require additional support for students. Students take part daily in an intervention time that is based specifically on each individual student’s needs, WIN (What I Need). Teachers are using research based intervention programs to support both reading and math achievement. Our hope is that as families, you are helping your student(s) by reading with them daily, practicing math fluency, and encouraging them to reach their goals here at CVE!
Your partnership in your child’s learning plays an important role in their overall success and growth. The homework will continue to focus on reading and math fluency providing additional practice as we work toward increasing these basic skills with the hope that soon your student will be able to complete more complex tasks. Please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher for additional information if you have questions about homework.
As always, CVE will remain focused on the vision of developing happy, high achieving students and staff!
VOCABULARY PARADE
On Thursday, October 31st, we will celebrate our annual Vocabulary Day. To increase our students’ vocabulary, we’re asking all students to add a word to their costume or build their costume around a fun vocabulary word. For example, if your child already has his Spiderman costume, he’d just need to add a sign with a word such as “Brave.” Perhaps your child wants to do something more creative. How about dressing up as the word, “puzzled” and then creating a costume that represents that word? Remember, we will not allow violent or gory costumes. We look forward to this fun event! Parents will be invited to see the parade and our teachers will reach out with specific times about classroom parties as the day gets closer.
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
We know Parent-teacher conferences play a significant role in enhancing your child's education. These conferences are an effective way for parents as well as teachers to discuss how your child has been doing academically in school, and for students to share the goals they are working on this year. We’d love to have 100% of our families participate in Parent/Teacher Conferences which will take place October 14th-17th. You will be receiving contact from your child’s teacher to schedule your conference time.
As the administrative team, we can’t thank you enough for believing in CVE as the place to share your children every day. Together we will continue to GROW in Green!

Counselor’s Corner
Happy Fall. As we approach colder temperatures, please remind your students to dress appropriately and remember to LABEL all their belongings. As the afternoons get warmer, kids leave their jackets on the playground and it is easier to get their stuff back to them if things are labeled. We just elected our 5th grade Student Council and we are excited to promote CVE activities. Our members are:
Logan Grant, Allicyn Rosenberg, Willow Roberts, Lily Noel, Maelee Kirk, Adriel Renova Gallegos, April Carter, Genesis Ruiz, Valeria Garcia, Zoe Grangroth, Lucy Jurmu, Haven Byman, Alison Navarro, Willow Keeney and Emely Zelaya Salgado.
In Character Education, Kindergarten and 1st grade are working on becoming mindful learners and learning how to advocate for themselves. In 2nd grade students are learning how to identify their own emotions and work on skills to help regulate themselves. 3rd grade students are learning how to identify what others are feeling by noticing body language and looking for facial expressions. This builds empathy and caring skills. 4th and 5th grade will focus on assertiveness skills. It helps the students ask for what they need in a calm, firm and respectful voice.
Totes for Hope has begun. It is a program run through the River Center that gives families 6-7 non perishable food items weekly and is distributed on Wednesdays. If you are a family that could use the supplemental food, please contact me and I can get you signed up. Parents and guardians, please label your students jackets and coats, especially as we enter colder mornings and hot afternoons in the fall season. Information about Angel Tree should be coming soon.
If your family needs emotional support or other types of assistance, contact me, Amy Chabin, at 970-665-7764 or achabin@garfieldre2.net.
