RCHS November Newsletter
October 1 , 2024

Grateful for our Community
This month's newsletter is full of all kinds of GREAT things as our students and staff have been busy improving our Pirate community. From the Homecoming festivities that kicked off October, to our final regular season home football Tackle Cancer game, RCHS students have immersed themselves in serving others and displaying the Pirate values of respect, growth, and honor. We are so proud of their community efforts. Our staff have also been busy as we wind down trimester one. Our themes this year are positivity and clarity and we've been living these with our Pirate Praise cards, posted learning targets, and encouragement of our students in and out of the classroom.
With next week being the start of week 9, final exams will soon be upon us, and the stress and anxiety levels of many will increase. Please encourage your student to ask their teachers if they have questions, to seek help at after-school tutoring, and to attend school regularly. At Open House, we shared the importance of school attendance and since we are seeing absenteeism rates increase, we'd like to remind everyone of the impact that missing school can have. Students who miss more than 10% of the school year (5 days each trimester) have a greater likelihood of doing poorly in school, have fewer positive relationships with staff, and may form habits and mindsets that are detrimental to future employment. Poor attendance not only has a negative impact on the individual student, it also hurts their peers and teachers as instructional activities are more difficult when students are regularly absent. Our students are an important part of our school and we need them to be present so they can learn and contribute to our school community. Please continue to support and encourage your student to do their best and reach out to let us know when / if barriers exist to their success.
As always, thank you for your support and encouragement as we work together to make RCHS the best place for students to learn and grow. ~ RCHS administration

Manufacturing Day is the largest annual event to promote manufacturing in the US, shows the reality of modern manufacturing careers by encouraging companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, teachers and community leaders.
RCHS was hosted by Gil-Mar Manufacturing at their Canton location. Students toured the facility, learned about the manufacturing process, learned about all the jobs needed to run the operation, and had hands on experiences with quality control of parts. Several Gil-Mar employees came together to make sure the students had a great experience, including HR Manager Kathy Owens who gave them gift bags to remember the day. Student were encouraged to come see her after graduation for interviews if they were interested in the jobs they have at the facility.

RCHS Painting Pennant Project ππ
Painting students have been expanding their knowledge about famous artists with our Artist's Pennant project. Students find an Artist they admire, do some research, and then are challenged to paint a "sliver" of one of their paintings on the front of the pennant.
Here we have Alyssa with Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring", Aaron with Bellow's "The Harbor", Maya with Hockney's "Tree House Painting", and Chloe with Picasso's "Three Musicians".
Well done, Painting students!
