Colleges and scholarship programs use these honors to identify students from underrepresented groups through College Board’s Student Search Service. These students earned this recognition by excelling on their PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, or AP Exams and in their classrooms.

Bark for Schools
At Northside ISD, we are committed to proactively ensuring the safety of our students on school-provided devices and accounts. In line with this commitment, NISD utilizes Bark for Schools, a student safety monitoring application. Bark is an additional proactive measure to protect our students' online activity at school and home.
What is Bark for Schools and How Does it Work?
Installed as an extension of Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Chat, Bark for Schools is a content monitoring tool that leverages powerful artificial intelligence technology to help detect potentially dangerous or inappropriate situations that students may be facing both in and out of school, including:
Cyberbullying
Threats of violence
Predatory advances
Inappropriate language
Sexual content
Suicidal ideation
Alert Process
When potential digital concerns arise on school-issued accounts, Bark for Schools sends specialized school representatives specialized alerts to ensure we can promptly address the situation. These alerts are important because they provide insight that could help us continue promoting the well-being and safety of the entire student body. Finally, it is important to understand that NISD and Bark are strongly committed to protecting student privacy. It is worth noting that this student safety application will only act as a resource to flag or identify if/when any of the above situations take place. The District will not utilize this tool to monitor communications other than what is flagged in the previously mentioned categories with the intention of student safety in mind.
For more information on the Bark for Schools software solution, please visit their website at https://bark.us or nisd.net/safety to learn more.
Thank you for helping us to keep our students safer online and in real life.
HB 114
The Texas Legislature recently enacted HB 114, requiring all school districts to implement mandatory disciplinary alternative education program (DAEP) placement for students found in possession of, using, selling, giving, or delivering e-cigarettes or vaping devices on school grounds or at a school-related event.
This alternative school placement, required by law, is made regardless of whether the substance being vaped is a controlled substance or not.

Safety
Here is the link for information related to district safety: Safety First, 2024-2025
Any visitors to campus will need to apply and pass a background check. This does need to be completed every year. It will not roll over. Here is the link to the background check: https://www.nisd.net/community/volunteer-mentor
If you notice anything unusual or a potential safety concern throughout the school year, please contact the NISD Safeline. The Safeline is anonymous and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Counselors' Corner
The counselors will visit 9th-grade Adv. English 1 classes on Friday, August 30th, to provide a guidance lesson. They will discuss high school graduation requirements, how to monitor grades and attendance, and high school vocabulary.
As we head to the 2nd week of school and students are settling into a school routine, it’s important for students to take preventative measures to help them stay on track by making good grades, thus reducing their stress and/or anxiety levels. One of the ways to reduce stress/anxiety is to stay organized, such as managing your time wisely, having a clean and neat area to study, away from distractions, etc... Here are some other medically reviewed tips to use to stay ahead of the game: High School Organization Tips and Ideas.

Senior Portraits
Seniors, if you haven't already done so, please call Prestige at (877) 244-9873 or visit the local Prestige website to set up your senior portrait session. Only pictures taken with Prestige will be in the yearbook. Please keep these things in mind:
- Make sure they have you as a Communications Arts student, NOT Taft.
- Our yearbook pose is a cap and gown NOT tux and drape. Be sure that the cap and gown you are given is WHITE with a red and white tassel, and for those in NHS, our stole is blue NOT white. The yearbook pose is cap on, and you MUST BE DRESS CODE COMPLIANT. We will NOT be Photoshopping pictures.
- Yearbook ONLY sessions are free, but we encourage you to choose a package with a variety of outfits and poses to reflect your personality and interests.
- Please consider purchasing a portrait package. A percentage of each sale is returned to our yearbook account to cover the cost of printing the portraits in the yearbook.
- Be sure to have your pictures taken by November, so you can be included in the yearbook. The sooner the better, so you have time to do retakes if you are unhappy with the first session pictures.
- Prestige will be on campus 9/18/2024 and 11/1/2024. These dates are for yearbook pictures ONLY.
