The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
It has been an exciting and monumental week in La Porte ISD! First, we learned this past week that our district has been selected as one of three statewide finalists for the H-E-B Excellence in Education Award. The H-E-B award reflects a commitment to student achievement through innovative programs, parent and community involvement, and professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators. I am eternally grateful to our Board of Trustees for setting such a high bar for our students, and to our instructional staff and leaders for seeing student excellence to fruition.
Our community can witness such excellence for themselves on January 25 on opening night of the 2024 La Porte High School Musical, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella. La Porte High School’s musical is renowned statewide for its quality and inclusivity, and I encourage everyone to enjoy this wonderful performance. If you hold a La Porte ISD Gold Card (for residents who are 60+) you can enjoy the opening night performance for free. Get your Gold Card Club card at our Administration Building, 1002 San Jacinto St.
I witnessed excellence at several of our schools this past week during their annual oral spelling bees, and — as always — I was amazed at the intelligence displayed by our students. It was obvious that all competitors put in much practice time. The top spellers will convene on Feb. 15 for the La Porte ISD Spelling Bee.
Excellence also abounds in our athletics programs. On Friday, we celebrated Addisyn Parker for scoring 1,000 career points as a member of the Lady Dawgs Basketball Team. This is a huge milestone. What is even more impressive is that she is the reigning 18 5-A MVP and a member of the All-District Academic team.
Finally, I want to thank our excellent community and Board of Trustees! On Saturday morning, we held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the future Bulldog Stadium. None of this would have been possible without our Board’s vision and overwhelming community support for our wonderful school district. La Porte ISD has a rich history and a bright future, and I am honored to lead our world-class school district moving forward.
With La Porte pride,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

Date Change: Junior High Parent Information meetings rescheduled for Jan. 23
The Junior High Parent Information meetings, originally scheduled for this week, have been moved to Jan. 23 because of the possibility of inclement weather. The meetings are for parents of incoming seventh and eighth grade students and will be held from 6-7 p.m. at Lomax and La Porte Jr. Highs.
Meanwhile, our 2024-25 Secondary Course Planning & Scheduling page is up and running. Please take a look for helpful information, important dates and contact information.
The annual La Porte High School Connect Fair is a week from Monday. It is an opportunity for students to take a closer look at many of the courses, extracurricular activities and student organizations.
Campuses hold annual spelling bees
La Porte ISD students from grades three through sixth on Friday competed for a spot in the upcoming district spelling bee. On average, about 24 students from each (elementary and Baker Sixth) campus qualified for the campus oral spelling bees by scoring high in a previous written spelling bee. The top three spellers from each school will participate in the district bee on Feb. 15.
2024 Hall of Honor
The 2024 La Porte ISD Hall of Honor nominating period is open through April 1 and includes two new awards categories. More information and a nomination form are available here.
