What's been happening at Tate?
Wright House of Fashion
On February 5, Mr. Andre Wright came to Tate to talk to students about the Wright House of Fashion and some opportunities they were putting together for the community. Students who were interested in fashion were invited to the library during 4th period to learn from industry professional.
Metro vs. Tate
Guitar Lessons with James Tutson
James Tutson is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and one-fifth of James Tutson and the Rollback, a band based in Iowa City. Friday, February 2 was his second session at Tate. Regardless of skill levels, students were welcome to join the class during their second period. Music brings people together; we hope to continue to offer opportunities like such for our students.
ICOR
On February 7 during 4th period, ICOR, Iowa City's USA Boxing registered amateur boxing club, came to Tate for another session. Students were eager to participate and learn from ICOR's head coach, Clif Johnson.
Art Class

Valentine's Cards
Student council worked hard to create Valentine's cards so that they can be delivered to Tate staff and students throughout the day.
Ms. Garcia's Baby Shower
On Valetine's Day, Tate staff threw a surprise baby shower party for our beloved Ms. Dalia Garcia. Thank you for all that you do & congratulations!
Upcoming Opportunities & Events
Jesse Smith Memorial Scholarship 2024
Jesse Smith is a former Teacher/MTSS Coordinator that worked at Tate High School for 10 years. He passed away July 2022. The Scholarship was founded in his memory. One senior will be eligible to receive a $1000.00 Scholarship toward Kirkwood or a Trade Program.
Please let Mr. Martin, the School Counselor, know if you have any further questions. We will have Senior Advisors and English Teachers available to help with any assistance you may need to complete the application.

Job Corps Presentation
On February 21, Jack Helstrom, Ottumwa's Job Corps Admissions Counselor, will be giving a presentation at Tate about the organization and its operation. During 5th period, all interested students can come to the library to learn about ways to receive vocational trainings and job opportunities.
Crystal Group Tour
Crystal Group is a manufacture company based in Hiawatha, Iowa. They specialize in rugged hardware and technology for military & industrial applications. There are only 4 slots left so any student who is interested in computers and technology should contact Mr. Cook or Raquel Lewis via their emails. The tour is scheduled for Monday, February 26.

Helping Students Learn About Personal Finance
MoneyThink, a group from the University of Iowa, will be back starting this month to talk with students about different personal finance areas like budgeting, buying a car, renting an apartment, etc. The meetings are open to any students who are interested. The group will meet on Wednesdays in the Library after lunch

Construction Apprenticeship Fair - April 11
This event is for students who have a serious interest in applying for a construction apprenticeship after graduation. Construction career paths at this event include: bricklayer, carpenter, electrician, HVAC technician, ironworker, laborer, millwright, operating engineer, painter/glazier, plumber/pipefitter, roofer, and sheet metal workers.

Students with a general interest and hands-on, construction-related careers should sign up to attend this day!
Kirkwood Community College Cedar Rapids Campus Visit - TBD April
