Community Crew News # 25
February 14, 2025
February 14, 2025
Greeting Conway Community,
Our motto, We are Crew, not passengers embodies the heart and spirit of our school. All our practices are rooted in the core belief of Crew and getter smart by doing good. In all areas of our campus, you can see that CREW is the heart of our school. On Tuesday, our 6th graders were seen working in crew out on the grassy knoll as they prepared for the traditional 6th grade panoramic photo. Our 6th grade class values this time as they come together to campus this very special moment in time. It was smiles and a lot of excitement as they know these last months of school are a special time to prepare as they wrap up their time at Conway and prepare for the transition their next learning adventure. 6th grade families can order their copy of the special photograph. Inquire with your 6th grade teachers.
This week our monthly DEN meeting, dens are multi-age Crews, that come together once per month to learn and practice crew with our multi-age learners. This month our focus was on problem solving and identifying strategies that support them in problem solving. In fact, our students had to solve an interesting problem, untie the human knot. They strategized and communicated with each other to solve this conundrum. Some groups were successful, while others, were not. But the most powerful aspect is always the debrief of the lesson by discussing what works and what didn't. Parents, ask your students about this month den lesson that happens, rain or shine.
San Fransisco Unified Leaders Visit Conway
San Francisco Unified school educators experienced classrooms that were alive with inquiry and expressed immense gratitude to all of you for opening your classroom doors and making learning visible. They left here inspired and energized about what is possible because they saw their students in our students. This was the first time they experienced such deep engagement and were truly blown away by the way our students feel so comfortable speaking to adults. Greeters were prepared, they heard student-led conferences from kinder through 6th grade students, and they were in awe at the 4th grade Socratic Seminar that was held in the library. Thank you Crew! Our school is trailblazing and igniting change beyond Escondido.
Meet our New Office Clerk
Please help me welcome our new clerk, Miss Angie. She comes to us from Central School and she’s excited to be part of our Crew. Here is a little about her -
My name is Angela but I prefer to go by "Angie"
I enjoy reading, journaling, and spending time outdoors with my son. I also love discovering new places to sit and watch the sunset, especially near the beach. :)
I'm excited to be joining the CREW here at Conway Academy!
I am grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. Together we are creating an EPIC school.
We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.
In crew,
Tina Meglich
Principal
