The Weekly SharkBeat!
SJHS Weekly Parent Newsletter - May 5, 2024
Welcome to the month of May. This month is packed with activities for everyone and is sure to fly by quickly. This upcoming week, we honor and celebrate our staff. We appreciate them daily, but especially recognize them this week that has been set aside.
This is an exciting month. Our spring musical wrapped up their performances today, bringing us lots of laughs and feel goods with outstanding talent. Our athletic students continue in playoffs, final concerts for the year are coming up, and Junior Marshals will be celebrated.
As a reminder, AP testing begins this week. Students have worked tirelessly, attending cram sessions and studying hard. We wish them the best. Please encourage your student to get plenty of rest the night before testing and eat a good breakfast so they can perform their best.
Parents, please take a look at the note below from Guidance. There is some pertinent information for seniors and underclassmen.
It's always a great day to be a Shark. Thank you for entrusting us with your child. Please see the calendar below for upcoming events.

Thank You High School Nation and Dunkin Donuts
Last Friday, students and staff were treated during lunches to a refreshing drink, gift cards, and outdoor games. While the students enjoyed the games, staff enjoyed a cold coffee. High School Nation sponsored this event which works to bring students together through fun and activities.

A Note From Guidance
Seniors and parents:
We are continuing to get scholarships for students to complete. Please use the link below to find out what you can apply for.
As we are preparing for the end of the year, we need to compile a list of all seniors who have been awarded scholarships and/or money from the colleges or organizations. We do this to calculate the grand total of scholarship earnings from SJH graduating class.
Please use the following google form: https://forms.gle/BXZ2T3QdYmZu2fC87
You will need to complete this form MULTIPLE TIMES for each scholarship that you have been awarded. Please report EVERY SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED OR MONEY OFFERED FROM COLLEGES (even if you do not plan on attending that college).
DO NOT INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
Money received from FAFSA: Pell Grant, SC Grant, Financial Aid, Life, Hope or Palmetto Fellows Scholarship
Underclassmen and parents:
We are moving forward with next year’ schedule. On Monday May 6 students and parents will get an email from counselors giving instructions about reviewing course requests for the 2024 - 2025 school year. Kids Sewing Camp
St. James High School FCCLA is hosting our first Kids Sewing Camp this summer! This camp is perfect for kids ages 7-12 to learn the basics of hand and machine sewing taught by St. James High's fashion teacher and students. Campers will be paired with high school fashion students to make a variety of projects including pajama shorts, scrunchies, tote bags, and more. Parents can sign their children up for Full Day or Half Day options. Camp will begin each day at the front lobby of the high school and campers will spend the day in the Fashion Lab. Half-day campers will depart at 12pm. Full Day campers will bring their own lunch for a picnic each day.
Graduation 2024
Students graduating are guaranteed 6 tickets. Extra tickets may be requested by contacting the school. Additional tickets are not guaranteed but simply a request. We try to accommodate everyone the best as possible. We will not know how many extra tickets we will have until senior grades are finalized. Students will get tickets the day of graduation practice at the HTC center. We try to accommodate their needs but we need to be fair to everyone. Simply call the school, 843-650-5600, and speak to the receptionist to request extra tickets. Tickets should be requested under the students' name.

Early Pick Up
If you plan to pick your student up early or your student will drive off campus early, please send a note with your student to be turned in before school starts at the Welcome Desk. We will verify the note and give your student a pass to meet you or leave at the appropriate time. Sending a note cuts down on class interruptions. Unfortunately, we cannot accept phone calls or emails to dismiss students. We appreciate your help.
Driving On Campus
Parents should always use the front entrance to pick students up for early dismissal. Additionally, we ask that you follow the traffic pattern set forth by SJH. Please do not move cones, go around cones or make unsafe decisions to shorten your time on campus. Please help us keep our students safe by following our traffic patterns.
