FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear FJVD Families,
What a blessed Catholic Schools Week it has been!
I want to thank all of our teachers, staff, and volunteers who worked to make this week possible. It featured our 1st Annual Soup & Chili Cook Off (Congrats Mrs. Sheldon!), Student Appreciation Day (including extra recess!), School-wide Bingo, Career & Vocations Panels, lots of spirited Dress Down Days, and culminates with our Faculty vs. Students Human Foosball Game. Not only that - but our Annual Auction is officially SOLD OUT! Phew! What a week!
We're keeping the fun and excitement going with the announcement of two new programs that will be starting at Fr. Doyle in the coming months:
STEM Club: Grades 1-4
Students in Grades 1-4 are invited to join our 6-week STEM Club program, coordinated by Mobile Quest STEM Center! The program will meet once per-week here at the school for a total of six weeks, beginning in early March. Students will set out to solve a different STEM problem each week, and in the process will engage in a wide-range of activities including coding, green-screen movie-making, and more! And best of all? The program is completely FREE for families!
More information, including sign-ups and a detailed schedule, will be provided next week. Stay tuned, as space in the program is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Debate Club: Grades 5-8
Students in Grades 5-8 are invited to participate in the Father John V. Doyle Debate Club, which will meet once per week after school 2:30-3:45, beginning Monday, February 10th. Students in the club will learn the basics of competitive debate, participate in intramural debates, and (hopefully!) have an opportunity to compete against other Catholic middle schools in a Spring debate tournament.
Is your child interested in participating? You can sign up to join the club by completing the survey here.
Also, a special thank you to Navigant Credit Union, who has made a generous donation to the school in support of our work to continually enhance our reading and language arts programs. The donation will be utilized to assist in purchasing new reading and language arts materials for our K-2 students, with the goal of continuing these enhancements through the grade levels in the years to come.
Finally, please keep our Early Enrollment Discount in mind. Enrollment Contracts & Deposits received by February 17th will receive $100.00 off tuition, and Contracts & Deposits received by March 30th will received $50.00 off tuition! A reminder that all Enrollment Contracts & Deposits for the 2020-2021 school year are due no later than April 15, 2020! Thank you for turning in your contracts early!
Be sure to check out our Upcoming Dates and Reminders for information regarding a range of upcoming events such as:

Volunteer Opportunities
Mrs. Jarvis is accepting donations of plastic ware and napkins that may be left over from the Thanksgiving or Christmas season. These will be utilized by students in the school lunchroom. Donations can be given directly to Mrs. Jarvis in the front office.
Fr. Doyle School is looking to participate in the First Lego League Junior Expo in March...
...but we can't do it without your help! In order to participate, we are currently asking for volunteers to coach Lego League Jr. team(s). A First Lego League (FLL) Junior team is made up of 4-6 students ages 6-10. Teams meet once per week for 1-2 hours to prepare their projects for the FLL Junior Expo. This year, teams will be using pre-ordered Lego robotics kits to build safe, happy, and healthy communities. Entries are then judged at the expo. Coaches do not need any robotics, computer, or engineering experience, and scheduling can be flexible. If you would be interested in volunteering, please contact the school! You can find more information about FLL Junior here.
The Nurse's Corner
The flu is now considered widespread in RI. Even in the event that it does not entirely prevent infection, the vaccine does help lessen the symptoms and may prevent worsening symptoms. The RI Department of Health wants everyone to know that it's not too late to vaccinate!
At school, the best solution to preventing the flu spreading is GOOD HAND WASHING! There are germs everywhere and many are spread through the air and land on our desks. Keeping hands washed and AWAY from the face will help prevent the spread of the flu and other illnesses. We are also taking extra precautions including cleaning desks and disinfecting toys regularly.
Please encourage your children to always wash their hands or use sanitizer before eating and especially after using the bathroom.

Green Bins help our school!
Aluminum Can Tab Collection
What: Aluminum can tabs are being collected
Why: To support the Ronald McDonald House in Providence
How can you help? Save can tabs and send them in to Mr. Godin’s room.
Bottle Cap Drive
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens up
Father John V. Doyle School to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.
All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.
Thank you!
