Early Release Day for Thanksgiving Break
Wednesday, November 27 is an early release day for Thanksgiving break. School will resume on Monday, December 2.
Celebrating Us
Thank you to everyone who has responded to our survey to indicate your interest in being a part of our "Celebrating Us" cultural festival. For those who are interested in joining the planning committee, we have set our first meeting date for Tuesday, December 10 at 6:30 pm. You can still let us know if you'd like to participate by filling out the survey at this link https://forms.gle/V5M4bUxKed8LiqK97.
Conferences
Our family teacher conferences are underway. If you have already had your conference, we hope you found the time informational and gained of understanding for the goals heading into the remainder of the year. We have another early release day on December 12 for conferences. If you haven't signed up for a conference, there is still time. We encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher to set up an appoint, virtual meeting or call.
Report Cards
On December 11, students in grade 1-4 will have their first term report cards open in the X2 Family Portal (kindergarten report card is available on January 18). If you have not yet logged into the family portal, you can view this video tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9goTXM2Nvo.
The Chelmsford Public Library is hosting a Read-a-Thon on Saturday, November 23 from 12 noon to 5 pm. There will be prizes and fun activities to celebrate reading, and hopefully a visit from one of their therapy dogs! They're hoping for a great turnout so they can reach their goal of 1,000 reading minutes! I know that Byam families are enthusiastic users of our public library, and I'm counting on your support!
We are at the beginning of family-teacher conference season. These conferences are an important piece in ongoing home-school communication and family involvement. The Harvard Family Research Project from the Harvard School of Education highlights three themes when approaching family-teacher conferences. Conferences should be a two-way conversation where both sides share information about the student. These conferences place an emphasis on learning. Finally conferences will most likely contain opportunities and challenges. They will include positive feedback and also areas for improvement. Home to school communication is a predictor for positive outcomes for students and schools and we at Byam look at our conference times with you as a way to strengthen our partnership.

Thank you from Debbie's Treasure
A big thank you to everyone who donated winter items to Debbie's Treasure box. We were able to fill the donation box several times over and we've let students know our Byam families kindness and donations will keep many families warm this winter.
