SMS WEEKLY UPDATE
October 21-October 25
Hello Stevenson Families!
The Week In Review
Good Afternoon Stevenson Families!
It was an exciting week at Stevenson Middle School! Our student athletes wrapped up the Fall Sports season. I want to congratulate all of our players and coaches on a great season that involved a lot of learning and growth. We also had our first Masterclass to show students what it would be like to be a pharmacist. We met with all of our students who ride the bus to review bus expectations. And, of course, we were able to enjoy the opportunity to meet virtually with our families at Parent Teacher Conferences!
I hope you were all able to communicate with your student's teachers and continue to build the bridge between home and school. If you still need input from teachers, please reach out to them directly.
Thank you to Mrs. Shultz's students who joined me for Pizza with the Principals this week - Zainab, Jordan, Alexia, Patrick, and Dakota! I had a great time eating and chatting with them!
Read on to see the updates for the week ahead!
Go Saints!
Mrs. Kasper
Principal

Any student who was not photographed by Lifetouch will have the opportunity to have their ID picture taken next Wednesday, October 23rd during 3rd hour. If your student has not received an ID because they have not had their picture taken, please have them secure a time slot and pass from Ms. Greenshields in the Counseling Office before next Wednesday.
Students can request a replacement ID on the Student Hub. After they complete the ID Request Form, they will need to see Ms. Greenshields to retrieve their ID. IDs will not be provided during 1st and 4th hours. The first replacement ID will be free, any ID requested afterward will cost $5 or 100 PBIS Points.
RAPS Focus Areas for October
Take a look at our focus areas for RAPS in October. This month we'll focus on Accountability and Pride. In each class every day, students are able to earn 2 PBIS points for following the behavior expectations in this area. Students will be able to use their PBIS points to purchase items in our school store, replacement IDs, and admission to sporting events next season.
Mrs. Brown & Ms. McDonald Visit the STEM Center
Mrs. Brown and Ms. McDonald's classes took a field trip to our in-district STEM Center. Students worked side-by-side to make compasses and then took them outside to test them out!
Pharmacy Masterclass
We had our first Masterclass this week! Wayne State University student (and former Stevenson Saint) Mackenzie Prater presented three Masterclasses on medication safety. Mackenzie is a current PhD student in the pharmacy program at Wayne State.
Students learned about over-the-counter and prescription medication safety, had the opportunity to use pharmacy tools and were able to measure liquids as part of this class. Mackenzie also answered student questions related to her college experience and careers in pharmacy.
If you're interested in presenting a Masterclass to our students, please reach out to Kelly Reinink in the counseling office at reininkk@wwcsd.net.

Student Spotlight
Charles Bates is our Student Spotlight! He likes studying the 13 colonies and presidents in Ms. Johnson’s history class because he is interested in the back stories on events.
Staff Spotlight
Ms. Sullivan teaches 8th Grade US History. She has been teaching for 26 years. She has been participating in NHD for 10 years and is also a local history expert who leads tours at the Westland Historical Village Park. When she is not teaching she is traveling to historical sites or to the beach. She is very involved with the city of Westland serving on the Historic Commission, Parks and Rec. Advisory Council and mentoring for Westland Youth Assistance. She also loves reading, knitting/crocheting, genealogy and true crime documentaries.
How can parents support at home learning this month?
Ask your student to show you assignments on Google Classroom and make sure they have been turning them in. It is also a good idea to log into Parent Connect with your student nearby to discuss their grade and assignments.
Free Breakfast and Lunch for All!
Wayne-Westland Community Schools is proud to continue participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2024-2025 school year as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. This ensures that ALL enrolled students receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at NO CHARGE to your household!
To help us maintain this program, we ask parents and guardians to complete and sign the Education Benefits Form (available on the Meal Magic Family Portal) and return it to your child's school as soon as possible. Please note: the information is used for administrative purposes, not to determine eligibility.
This form is crucial for your child's school to receive important funding from state and federal programs like Title I A, At-Risk (31a), and more. Your help makes a big difference!

Bus Assemblies Last Week!
This week we reviewed our bus expectations.
Please remember, being able to ride the bus is a privilege, and it's critical that our students demonstrate behavior that will allow the bus driver to focus on the task of driving our students safely from point A to point B. Students demonstrating unsafe behaviors or behaviors that can distract the bus driver are at risk of losing bus-riding privileges.
Below is the information we shared at our bus assemblies.
