Library Services
We continue to have a liaison with the Sacramento Public Library. During our first Parent University program, we provide public library card applications for students and their families. These applications are processed by Elsie Mak, from the Elk Grove branch, and the cards are delivered to our campus for distribution. Usually, Elsie Mak or Nathan Milos attends Readapalooza, our family reading event, to promote Sacramento Public Library services and local events.
We continue to notify parents and guardians of our students about overdue materials with mailings in August, February, and April. Notices were delivered to Advocacy classes to be distributed to students with overdue items. Our library technicians also made phone calls periodically to encourage the return of textbooks and library books.
Guided Inquiry Research and The Right Question
I collaborated with History Honors 7 teachers, Alison Bliss and Anthony Sanchez, using Guided Inquiry Research methods. Their classes came to the library regularly to research topics surrounding the Middle Ages. Mrs. Mager and I collaborated on a Title IX project using Guided Inquiry Research with her English Learners. Mrs. Green and I collaborated on an African American History research project using Guided Inquiry methods and The Right Question's question formulation technique with her Connections students. Daniella Hill and Jennifer Jenkins continued the tradition of students researching people, places, and events of the Holocaust after reading The Diary of Anne Frank.
70,897 searches were completed by our middle school students on our EBSCO databases!
Maker Mondays and Makerspace
This year we continued to work with John Pellman, MTHS DATA academy students and their teacher, Sal Lascola, CTE teachers, and others to plan our permanent Library Makerspace. I am excited to see what the future holds!

Our library team sorted, classified, labeled, relocated, and changed records on every book in our fiction section. Now students who enter the library and say, "Where are your sports books?" can locate the books they desire in our Sports section identified by signage and color-coded labels. Our catalog now also lists our fiction books under a sub location. We will train our students next year to note the author and location when physically searching for their choices in the library when utilizing the catalog.
It was a huge job but we finished it at the end of the year, just in time for Annette Klein's retirement. Goal met!
