LnHS Update - May 13

This week we have a lot of info leading to the end of the year, such as Summer School, senior activities (such as awards night), and many other events. Please take a look at each heading to see what info is meaningful to you.

We had a wonderful week celebrating our teachers during this Teacher Appreciation Week. We thank our students and parents who shared their appreciation on our Teacher Padlet.

As the year winds down, we want to share with you some Lancaster program successes.

• Bio Med and Engineering programs just received a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Distinguished School award
• Multimedia and Engineering programs just received the Gold Linked Learning status
• Positive Behavior and Supports program just received Platinum Status (highest rating) for our work in core values and our Student Support Center program

The best indicator of student success is student attendance! If your student is where they are supposed to be, then the chances of success or continued success is exponentially higher (it's my number one piece of advice for our students). Please talk to your student about being in class and being where they are supposed to be. Thank you for your support!

Summer School will be in person for all students. Please complete this enrollment application for your school as well as the REQUIRED Master Agreement (both must be filled out). Once you submit this form, you will see the link to the required Master Agreement.

Piority will be given to those who apply on or before May 31, 2024.

This link, which will appear after you submit the summer school application, will take you to the Master Agreement.

Failure to submit BOTH will lead to delays in processing your application. Space is limited, so submit both forms today.

If you have not ordered your cap and gown yet, you need to do so AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Use the link below to order, and they will be delivered to the school and given out at Senior Checkout on May 31. You MUST wear a Lancaster blue cap and gown or gold for CIF at graduation. Any questions? Come by the Activities Office.

The 2024 Yearbook is here! We have a few left for sale for $85, so be sure to visit the campus Student Store or Ms. Mendoza in accounting to get your yearbook today. When they are gone, they are gone!

If you ordered a personalized yearbook, Ms. Mendoza has them in her office. If you ordered a yearbook and haven't picked it up yet, we will start delivering them on 5/2.

Every Tuesday, our ASB produces its "EagleVision" broadcast. This is a great place to find out what is happening across our campus. These videos will be featured on our weekly update after being shown to our students each Tuesday.

Kim mora is choosing between Channel Islands, Sac State, Sonoma State and Humboldt. Her teacher, Ms. Carbajal, calls her a "superstar" in our Independent Study Program. Great job, Kim mora!

Eric and Ashley each received a $2500 scholarship at the Annual 4.0 Celebration!

Seven has represented Lancaster so well this semester! Seven was a Teen Talk student leader and also placed 3rd in Heath Communications in the district's STEM Expo. We are proud Seven as he has shown core values of being an Eagle!

Lancaster High School is pleased to announce that Colin Melchor and E'myiah Gordon, both seniors at Lancaster High School, have been selected as recipients of the Don Ryan Scholarship from the AV Chamber of Commerce office. The Don Ryan Scholarship is awarded to seniors in the Antelope Valley who have worked part-time at a local business and demonstrated positive work ethics. Colin and E'myiah are participants in the WE CARE Work-Readiness Program, where they have had the opportunity to gain the necessary skills and experiences to excel in the workplace.

Come out and support our Shake the Nest Dance Team celebration. Come see some of our team's favorite and new dances. This event is a fund raiser at $5 with ASB, $7 without or $10 at the door. Help our dance team fund their club for the next year. Buy your tickets in accounting or at the student store.

Attached is a video for artists of the week. We adding in as much student work as possible. The video is mostly Art 2's Stencil and Sewing practice then ends with Art 1's Doodle Grid practice.

Come join us for music, performances, food, prizes, and a multicultural celebration!

Every expert will tell you, if your student is involved in school, they will be more successful and will find a sense of belonging. For some there are athletics and for others, there are clubs (or both!). Last week we hosted Club Rush with a record number of clubs. Clubs make a large school seem smaller as students surround themselves with like-minded students. See below to see what clubs we have to offer and when/where these clubs meet. Get involved, join a club!

Parent-teacher workshops are offered once a month by the Counseling Department on a variety of topics. Please feel free to attend any or all workshops that may interest you. Can't make it? No problem! All workshops will be posted on the Counseling website for you to view at your convenience.

Before-School TUTORING HAS STARTED. We have tutoring in the library from 7:40am-8:40am. Tutorning has a check-in/check-out system. Parents, if you want to verify if your student attended, have them take a picture of their checkout card. You will see what time your student checked in and checked out. The tutoring program was completely restructured and is set up for success for our students.

Did you know that your student has LIVE 24 HOUR FREE tutoring available in your student's PowerSchool? Our district has partnered with Princeton Review to provide every student with this amazing service. Your student can be connected with a tutor in any subject any time of the day, for FREE. These are not videos, they are live, vetted, tutors. Think of Uber, but for tutoring! The tutors will even edit papers for your student with less than a 24 hour turn-a-round period.

The easiest way to access this free, live, virtual tutoring, is to have your student log into google with their school account, log into Power School, look on the left side of the screen and find the live tutor button, and follow the easy to follow directions from there. AVUHSD works hard to remove barriers of many kinds for students, and today we’re excited to share that starting immediately, ALL students may obtain a FREE AVTA bus pass that is valid through June 2024.

We are pleased to announce that the Antelope Valley Transit Authority’s Go Pass Program is now available to all students served by the Antelope Valley Union High School District. This initiative grants free access to all Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA), and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Authority (LACMTA) bus routes. Please note that all Go Pass holders are subject to the AVTA Customer Code of Conduct, and misuse will be subject to the decisions and actions of the AVTA.

This program requires approval from a parent or guardian. Please provide the
information requested in the permission slip and return it to our library. This will authorize the issuance of an AVTA Go Pass to your student. Authorization also indicates your acknowledgment of the service provided through this program and the possible outcomes due to any identified misuse.

• You may print out your permission slip from the attachments included or have your student pick one up from the library
• The permission slip must be signed by the parent and returned to the library to receive your Go Pass
• If your student is in the moderate/severe special education program, you may receive your permission slip from your student's teacher or you may pick up from the library. Your permission slip will have different options that you may choose from (such as your student's teacher holding onto the pass for your student)
