Welcome Officer Huska!
We are pleased to welcome a second school resource officer (SRO) to the Sandwich Public Schools, that being Sandwich Police Officer Heather Huska. Officer Huska is certainly no stranger to the community, as she was born and raised here, attended the Oak Ridge School and is a member of the Sandwich High School Class of 2015. As a student at SHS, she was inspired by former SRO Christa Cabral, stating, "“It is kind of a full circle moment for me. Christa is the reason I'm here as I knew back then that I wanted to do something for others the way that she did.” Officer Huska has been with the SPD since 2018, first as a dispatcher and then as a patrol for the past five years.
While both SROs will service all schools, Officer Huska will first focus efforts at the Forestdale and Oak Ridge Schools and fellow SRO Officer Marc Petersen (pictured above) will be stationed at Sandwich Middle High School. We are grateful for the support and partnership with the Sandwich Police Department to keep our students and staff safe.
Oak Ridge & SMHS Sporting New Hoops
As students returned this week they had new options for outdoor play, namely through the rehabilitation of two outdoor basketball courts at both Sandwich Middle High School and the Oak Ridge School. Both courts were constructed during the summer months. The high school court was in desperate need of replacement, and last spring a group of 8th grade social studies teacher Jeff Duffany's students appeared before the Sandwich School Committee as part of their Civic Action Project to appeal for an updated court. The School Committee intently listened and followed up with action. The Oak Ridge court has been a long time coming, as it was largely supported through the annual Boosterthon fundraisers sponsored by the Sandwich Elementary PTA. Many thanks to the dedicated parents on the PTA who saw this vision through to become a reality!

****** PowerSchool Forms *******
Each year students in ALL GRADES require updating of all forms in PowerSchool. These forms ensure that staff have accurate contact information for your children in the event of illness, injury, or emergency. In addition, these forms provide the nursing staff with permission to provide first aid and medical care to your children while they are in school.
Please take a moment today to log into the PowerSchool parent portal and fill out the required forms in PowerSchool using the instructions found on this link. It is VITAL for the safety and comfort of our students, that we have accurate, current information on our students. If you have problems accessing PowerSchool or have forgotten your username or password, please email help@sandwich.k12.ma.us
As always thank you for your attention to these issues and enjoy these final days of summer!
