Fair Haven Union Middle School
May 21st Newsletter
Note from the Middle School Principal
Good afternoon FHUMS Families,
On May 30th, our school district faces our 4th Budget Vote. There are many ways to get informed and find answers to any questions you may have. There is an informational meeting May 29th at 6:30 in the FHU Band Room. You can attend in person or virtually at https://meet.GooGle.com/zpj-eomo-syc. Dialogue and respectful discussion is the only way forward. Please vote on May 30th. Your vote is your voice.
We are working on preparations for the end of the year events such as the 8th Grade trip to Lake Bomoseen on June 10th and the 8th Grade Celebration on June 12 from 6-7pm. These events allow our 8th grade students the opportunity to celebrate the rite of passage marked by the completion of middle school and the subsequent move to high school. It is an exciting time!
Also coming up are two opportunities for our incoming 7th graders to begin building a connection with FHUMS. This Friday, May 24th, myself, Mrs. Ezzo, Mr. Clark and Mr. Merrill will embark upon a 'traveling road show' to our sending schools. We will visit 6th grade students at each of the sending schools for a brief introduction and to field questions. Then, on June 5th from 12:40-1:30, there will be a 'move-up' time. During this move-up time, our incoming 7th grade students will be transported here to FHUMS for a second introduction to their team of teachers as well as the Middle School space. Our current 7th (soon to be 8th) grade students will spend that time with their 8th grade teachers. And our current 8th grade students (who are almost high school students) will spend that time having the chance to observe high school classes.
Our Middle School spring sports teams are wrapping up their seasons, our music program had their final concert for the year. The 2024 Pops Concert and Art Show on May 16th was a huge success! Meanwhile, the marching band is currently hard at work preparing for a full weekend of parades coming up this Memorial Day Weekend. They will be in the Castleton Memorial Day Parade in the morning of Saturday the 25th, the Fair Haven Memorial Day Parade in the afternoon of Saturday the 25th and the Orwell Memorial Day Parade in the afternoon of Sunday May 26th.
Thank you,
Jennefer Paquette.

Slater Round Up - Pending Budget
We are very much hoping to offer this week of camp during the summer to allow our incoming 7th grade students a chance to connect with teachers and peers as well as become acclimated to the space. It is a wonderful opportunity! However, because this takes place after July 1, the funds to staff this experience and provide transportation from district towns to FHUMS come from the 24-25 budget. If the budget does not pass this next round, we will not be able to offer this opportunity this year. If that happens, we will work to create a 'start' of the school year that supports our new 7th grade class. In the case that the budget passes and we are able to offer this experience, we would extend the June 1st sign up deadline out a few weeks. Fingers crossed for a passed budget and a summer with another Slater Round Up!
