SOUTHWEST MIDDLE SCHOOL'S CORE VALUES
Over the first two days of school our Southwest standout students selected our school’s core values. These are values that we want all stakeholders, students, staff, and parents/guardians, to exhibit this year at Southwest.
How it Worked: It started with each of our twenty eight advisories selecting three to four values. The next day, each advisory sent one representative to the media center where they worked within their teams to choose three to four values. Eventually, it came down to one representative from each of our teams where they selected our schools core values for the year.
We will refer back to these core values everyday here at Southwest. Please feel free to talk to your student(s) about these core values and ask them how they are demonstrating these values each day.
DEAN'S DIARY - Mrs. CO2, Dean of Students
Shh, don’t tell my mom! When I was in seventh grade at SWMS I would change into shorts in the first bathroom I could find. My mom had a rule about temperature and short wearing, but I hated it. My friends were wearing shorts and I wanted to wear them too. So, I would pack them in my backpack and change before and afterschool. So why am I telling you this? I get it. I have been there too. And I bet you have a few of your own stories to tell. But as we prepare for the upcoming school year, I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone about our dress code policy at Southwest Middle School. Our goal is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that supports learning and promotes professionalism among our students.
Below are the key points of our dress code policy:
Inclusivity: Our dress code is designed to be inclusive of all students, regardless of gender, cultural background, or religious beliefs. We encourage students to express themselves while ensuring that their attire is appropriate for a school setting.
Practicality: We understand that students need to feel comfortable and be able to participate fully in all school activities. Therefore, our dress code allows for a range of practical clothing options suitable for both classroom learning and physical activities. Clothing should be safe, comfortable, and appropriate for a diverse range of weather conditions.
Professionalism: We believe that dressing appropriately helps to create a positive learning environment. Our dress code encourages students to dress in a way that reflects respect for themselves and their peers. This includes avoiding clothing with offensive language or imagery and ensuring that clothing is not overly revealing.
We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a positive school environment where all students can thrive. Please review the full dress code policy here, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your cooperation!
