SOAR Palmdale Update/Actualizacione

Next Friday, March 14, is an important day for our students! Our juniors will be taking the SAT, an opportunity that can open doors to college admissions and scholarships. While many colleges are test-optional, strong SAT scores can still enhance applications, qualify students for merit-based aid, and demonstrate college readiness. We are proud that our district provides this test for FREE, ensuring all students have the chance to take it without financial barriers. Juniors, be sure to get a good night’s sleep and arrive on time, ready to do your best!

Additionally, freshmen at the SOAR Lancaster campus will be participating in the Physical Fitness Test on the same day. This assessment measures overall fitness levels and helps students set personal health and wellness goals. Students should come prepared with appropriate attire, athletic footwear, and water to stay hydrated throughout the test.

While juniors and freshmen are testing, all other grade levels will be preparing for our site STEM Expo, taking place on Friday, March 21st. This event showcases student innovation and creativity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We’re also excited to announce our first annual STEM Symposium at SOAR Palmdale, where industry partners will present on the many areas within the STEM field, giving students valuable insights into potential career paths.

This past Wednesday, March 5th, we had the privilege of celebrating our students' hard work at our annual Academic Awards ceremony! Over 450 students were recognized for their outstanding academic achievements. To earn an academic award, students must have earned a 3.5 GPA or higher in both their high school and college courses during the spring or fall semester of 2024. We are incredibly proud of our students’ dedication to excellence and look forward to their continued success!

¡El próximo viernes 14 de marzo es un día importante para nuestros alumnos! Nuestros juniors tomarán el SAT (Prueba de Evaluación Escolástica), una oportunidad que puede abrir puertas a admisiones universitarias y becas. Mientras que muchas universidades son de prueba opcional, las altas puntuaciones del SAT pueden mejorar las aplicaciones, calificar a los estudiantes para la ayuda basada en el mérito, y demostrar la preparación para la universidad. This week at SOAR, we celebrated the hard work and achievements of our students! On Wednesday, March 5th, we hosted our annual Academic Awards ceremony, recognizing over 450 students for their outstanding academic performance. To earn an academic award, students must have achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher in both their high school and college courses during the spring or fall semester of 2024. It was an incredible event that highlighted the dedication and perseverance of our students.

As we move into the month of March, we are focusing on the theme of Integrity. Integrity is about adhering to a strong moral code and values, practicing honesty, and making ethical decisions. It’s a foundation for leading a good and moral life and plays a crucial role in shaping our character and the way we interact with others.

Did you know that the AVC Student Health department provides FREE in-person mental health counseling to currently enrolled students?

There is a therapist on-site Thursdays 1-5 p.m. in SSV 187, with other days and time options available to accommodate your schedule. Counseling support services are provided in partnership with Bartz Altadonna Community Health Center. “When you need to talk with someone face to face, we're here,” said Jen Winn, Student Health.

It's important that all members of the SOAR community are familiar with behavioral expectation, academic integrity policies, dress code, etc. Students will be getting a copy of the planner through AVID classes soon. Again, until then, we ask that you review our online version of this document.
