The eLeader
The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
Hopefully, everyone enjoyed a relaxing Labor Day weekend and will return to school on Wednesday refreshed and energized. As we jump back into our routines, let’s embrace this opportunity with renewed enthusiasm and dedication, ready to tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone for making Border Battle Week so spirited and memorable. The week leading up to La Porte and Deer Park squaring off on the football field is a special time for many reasons, not the least of which is the way every student and staff member at every school embraces their Bulldog spirit. I’m incredibly proud of our players, performing groups, student trainers, and the enthusiastic support from our home crowd. Your dedication and passion truly shine through! View game photos here.
The Bulldog spirit can also be seen at any number of events throughout the week, as fall athletics are in full swing. Regardless of the sport -- football, volleyball, tennis, cross country or water polo -- our students at the junior highs and high school really appreciate your support. You can see this week's schedule below in the La Porte Lineup, or visit the athletics website. We are also pleased to announce the LPHS Student All Sports Pass, which will gain students entry into an unlimited number of home athletic events (excluding varsity football or playoff games) throughout the 2024-25 school year for $20. Scroll for more information and a link to purchase the pass.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- Mega shout-out to our Bulldog football players, band and color guard performers, Chatos, cheerleaders and student trainers for your superb representation of Bulldog Nation at the annual Border Battle.
- Huge kudos also go to the many parent volunteers who assist our players and performers on a weekly basis. Our students are able to exhibit excellence because of your commitment.
- Anytime our students travel, our bus drivers are the ones who get them there and home safely and on time. Please join me in thanking our Transportation Department and our dedicated drivers.
- A huge kudos and thanks to the most dedicated hometown fans I have ever had the pleasure to be a part of. I was beaming with pride this past Friday night as I witnessed the support and sportsmanship of La Porte fans.
Finally, did you know that the La Porte Education Foundation has given more than $2.8 million in classroom grants over the past 30 years? These grants are for innovative and instructional "extras" that enrich the quality of education for La Porte ISD students. The Foundation's continued success depends greatly on the support of our community through donations and participation in such events as the 2024 La Porte Education Foundation Gala at the Galveston Island Convention Center (San Luis Resort) on September 14. The keynote speaker is La Porte's own J.B. Sauceda, the new host of Texas Country Reporter. Please consider joining us at this annual fundraiser event. (Scan the QR code below.) If you are unable to attend, there are other ways to support the Foundation. Check out their website or call 281-604-7038.
The 2024-2025 school year is off to a wonderful start, thanks to the collective efforts of our students, parents and staff. Your support has been instrumental in setting a strong foundation for success as we continue to strive for excellence and ensure the best possible experience for our students. Thank you for your continued partnership and enthusiasm!
In your service,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.

Must-Knows For This Week
- La Porte ISD is excited to introduce the easy option of paying for all school fees/spirit items with our new RevTrak online credit card payment system. Simply create an account, find your campus, choose your fee to pay and check out. The best part is that you will not be charged a fee to use the site. Access RevTrak here. (If you are adding funds to your student’s meal account, you will continue to use the My School Bucks website.)
- The 2024-25 Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct are available online. Please familiarize your student with the contents. We are strictly enforcing the district dress code; you can review it beginning on page 54 of the Student Code of Conduct. Thank you for helping us ensure that our students dress appropriately.
- If your child rides the bus, we encourage you to download the SMART Tag Parent app. With the SMART Tag Parent App, families enjoy great features such as push notifications for load/unload status, proximity to home/school alerts and real-time location of your student's bus. Questions? Call our dedicated Transportation Department at 281-604-7177.
- Breakfast and Lunch are FREE for all La Porte ISD students this year! Supplemental food, such as fruits and vegetables, are also free for students who bring their lunch. (No registration is necessary.)
City's Youth Advisory Council Kicks Off
The newly formed Youth Advisory Council to the City of La Porte held its inaugural meeting this past week. The group is comprised of La Porte High School students who have been selected to offer feedback and fresh perspectives to city officials. The students worked on a mission statement and discussed some ideas that they might want to pursue in the coming year.
September Cafeteria Menus
September cafeteria menus are now available. Remember, breakfast and lunch are free to all students throughout the 2024-25 school year. This includes fruits and vegetables for students who bring their lunch. (No registration is necessary.) Click here to view the latest menus.
Did you know? One of our primary goals is to serve locally-sourced fresh fruit each Friday. These choices will vary with the growing season. Students at La Porte High School have access to a loaded salad bar. This salad bar features locally-grown hydroponic lettuce each and every day. We’re looking to expand the variety of Texas vegetables available there.
