Weekly Good News

On Friday, February 7th, 2nd and 3rd graders from Dorr traveled to the FAC to enjoy performance of Tuck Everlasting by the WUHS Theatriks. Dorr students practiced play etiquette and enjoyed the performance!

Mr. Mattis is teaching coding lessons with elementary classes again this year. Mrs. Kupres' class thoroughly enjoyed his introduction to coding lesson!

WUS hosted the regional competition for Odyssey of the Mind on Saturday, February 8th. WUS had five teams participating. One team was primary and is not eligible to advance to the State Tournament. Of our four teams that were eligible to advance to the State Tournament, two teams scored high enough to advance to the State Competition in March.

• Wayland Union Middle School team coached by Shelby VerHulst performed Problem 3: Cooking with Books placed 2nd in their division, advancing to States.
• Wayland Union High School team coached by Rachel McGrady-Hawley performed Problem 5: AstronOMical Odyssey! and placed 2nd in their division, advancing to States.
• Pine Street team coached by Jaclyn Smith performed Problem 5: AstronOMical Odyssey! and placed 4th in their division.
• Pine Street team coached by Tina Burns and Jessica Barnum performed Problem 3: Cooking with Books placed 3rd in their division.
• Dorr/Steeby team coached by Megan Saczynski performed Primary: It's a WONDERful World! Primary teams are not eligible to advance to States.

We are proud of our Wayland Union Schools OM teams for their outstanding creativity and teamwork! Well done, OMers!

On Monday, February 10th, students from Steeby Elementary lead the board meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance. They were one of the loudest groups the board has ever seen. Great job!

Congratulations to the News Team's own Oscar Sessions whose article was picked to be published in the March edition of Gun Lake Area Living Magazine. Oscar's article covers the upcoming spring musical Rock of Ages. Great job, Oscar!

On Tuesday, February 11th, students in Mrs. Dare's 4th grade classroom presented their extreme weather projects to their peers. Great work students!

On Wednesday, February 12th, members from our WUHS orchestra program were invited to perform during the Leisure Life Valentine's day party. Those in attendance were then offered the chance to perform with the group, earning them participation certificates. We love any opportunity our students have to get involved with the community!
