PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Back in early September I announced Ms. Hannah Grossi as our long term guest teacher for Physical Education/Wellness. As you may know from the newsletter she sent families last week Ms. Hannah is now our official PE/Wellness Teacher. Ms. Hannah has been a wonderful PE teacher for our students all year, quickly establishing rapport with classes, learning student’s interests and strengths, and supporting individual student needs calmly and with kindness and warmth. She creatively utilizes our PPS Open Court Curriculum, modifying for developmental levels while providing coherence, consistency and safety. She plans ways to ensure all students feel invited and welcome to participate and brings a wealth of previous teaching experience evident in strengths such as keeping lesson introductions short, meaningful, clear and relevant so children know what they’re going to learn and play, why it’s important, and so they can get right to it. Here is an introduction Ms. Hannah wrote for our community:
My name is Ms. Hannah, and I’m thrilled to be a part of your child's journey in Physical Education this year! I have a deep passion for living an active and healthy lifestyle, and I believe in the power of movement to build strong bodies, minds, and relationships. I’m eager to get to know each child and create a positive, supportive environment where they can thrive. I look forward to partnering with you to encourage healthy habits both in and out of the gym!
You can meet with Ms. Hannah or any of our other Specials Teachers, in addition to a conference with your child’s teacher. Conferences are coming up on November 25 and 26: please sign up here if you haven’t already.
During conferences you’ll find copies of our newly created Arleta School-Parent-Student Compact (used to promote a common agenda) as you come in the main entry and outside classrooms including the gym, library, and music and art rooms. This compact is one part of our school’s parent and family engagement policy. It’s been developed jointly through school teams including parents via Site Council this fall and identifies ways you as parents and caregivers, and our school staff can share the responsibility for supporting your child’s learning. A requirement of Arleta’s new status as a Title 1A school is that every student, parent/caregiver and staff member sign this compact, which PPS Title 1 schools do during fall conferences. Our compact is being translated into our PPS supported languages in time for conferences and we’ll send it out next week so you can preview it. If you think of suggestions for the compact in general, or specific language you want to add to your child’s compact, please write it in on your child’s document. Teachers will place compacts with suggestions at the top of their stack of signed copies, and we’ll incorporate suggestions for the compact overall into next year’s compact. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Lisa

Could this be you? Please email the PTA if you're interested!
