Welcome to the 24/25 school year! Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
IMPORTANT INFO: ARRIVAL and DISMISSAL Procedures
ARRIVAL Information
Your child’s arrival locations are the same as their dismissal locations. (See dismissal info below)
Arrival time on T, W, TH, F is 8:10-8:25. We begin letting students into the building at 8:10. Students will be marked tardy after 8:25. If you arrive after 8:25, you will need to park in our front lot and walk your child to the front door to sign them in.
Arrival time on late start Mondays is 9:45-10:00. We begin letting students into the building at 9:45. Students will be marked tardy at 10:00. If you arrive after 10:00, you will need to park in the front lot and walk your child to the front door to sign them in.
DISMISSAL Information
We continue to use our electronic system for end of day dismissal. This system improves the educational experience for your children by allowing them to remain in their classrooms until their actual dismissal. It also improves student safety by reducing the number of children in loading areas and by providing an electronic record of your child's movement during departure. Dismissal begins at 3:10 pm.
URGENT: If you have not been able to tell your child's teacher or our front office staff your child's dismissal plan, please call our office Tuesday morning so we are ready for the first day of school!
LOCATIONS for dismissal
Sumner Middle School Car Loop, located in the front of Sumner Middle School
This loop is ONLY for our 1st graders, 2nd graders, and older siblings of 1st and 2nd graders. Please DO NOT arrive before 2:50 as SMS is doing their dismissal.
Maple Lawn Car Loop, located in the back parking lot by the fields
This loop is ONLY for 3rd graders, 4th graders, and 5th graders. Please DO NOT arrive before 2:50.
Bus Loop, located in front of the school
This is for students riding the bus each day
Playground @ the Swings
This is for students who live in the neighborhood and their parent/guardian will walk from home to pick up their child
Independent Walkers
Students who are able to walk home on their own will go through the building and exit at the front entrance of the building. They will be directed to use the crosswalks.
Right At School
This is for students who attend the Right At School program. They will meet their lead in the MPR
You have been provided two number tags to be used when your child is picked up from the school at the end of the day. If you have not received yours, please call our office to arrange a plan to get your numbers. Please clearly display your number on your vehicle when picking up your child; laying the number flat on your dashboard makes it very difficult for staff to view. Anyone else that you send to pick up your child must also have this number to display. If they do not have the number, they will be required to come to the office to show proper identification. If you live in the neighborhood and walk to pick up your child, you will also need to have your number tag.
IMPORTANT: Change of Dismissal for the Day
If you have a change of dismissal, you MUST call our office by 2:30pm.
IMPORTANT: Early Pick Up
Please come into the office when picking your child up for early dismissal and we will call them down for release.
We will not be able to dismiss students after 2:45pm.

September is Attendance Awareness Month!
Did you know that children can suffer academically if they miss 10% or more school days in the school year?
That’s 2 or more missed days a month on average. And that can add up before you know it.
This September, the Sumner-Bonney Lake School District is celebrating Attendance Awareness Month with a renewed push to get all kids to school- ON TIME, EVERY DAY.
Research shows us that absences add up. That’s as true for kindergartners as it is for 12th graders. It’s as true for excused absences as it is for unexcused absences. The connection between attendance and high school graduation should not be ignored. Improving attendance in our schools is a critical factor in helping us achieve our goal for 100% graduation rate.
Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school every day. So this September, for Attendance Awareness Month, let’s work tougher to make sure our students attend school ON TIME, EVERY DAY.
September meal menus; apply for free/reduced meals
Be prepared for school by checking out what’s for breakfast and lunch in September:
Interactive Menu (menus will show by Sept. 1)
We encourage families who may be eligible to apply for free meals. Applications can be found at sumnersd.org/meals.
Applications must be resubmitted each year. Qualified students receive free meals for the full school year. Please check your student account balances before school starts.
Note: Recent state legislation provides meals at no cost for all students at elementary schools that have 30% or more of their students qualifying for free or reduced-price meals. For the 2024-2025 school year, breakfast and lunch will be free for all students at Daffodil Valley Elementary, Liberty Ridge Elementary, Sumner Early Learning Center, Bonney Lake Elementary, Crestwood Elementary and Maple Lawn Elementary. Students at all other district schools will be charged the regular price for meals unless they qualify for free or reduced-price benefits.
Families who qualify for free or reduced lunch may be eligible for waived fees to participate in extracurricular school programs and reduced fees for curricular fees, such as sports/athletic fees, ASB cards, field trips, club fees and more. To qualify, fill out the Consent to Share Eligibility Form (Spanish).
