F2F students will travel by bus and enjoy activities with staff and their classmates. We will leave the building around 9:45 AM and return around 2:00 PM. Virtual students can attend and received an email with information and an RSVP this week.
If you need to access your 8th-grade student during this time, please coordinate with Ms. Lally prior to that day via email at lallyl@sycamoreschools.org or via phone 686-1760.
Students should bring:
Face covering
Towel and swimwear if they wish to swim
Sunscreen
Students are permitted to bring:
Hat
Sporting equipment
Cards
Small bag or backpack to carry their belongings
A sack lunch/snacks
Lunch, snacks, and plenty of water will be available to students thanks to our generous PTO.
It is our recommendation that students do not bring valuables to school on this day. We will not be able to respond to stolen or lost valuables, including cell phones. Additionally, students are not permitted to use their cell phones at this event.
In order to have the privilege of attending this event, students must be in good academic and behavioral standing.
Maintain passing grades in your classes. Students with multiple failures for the 4th quarter will not be permitted to attend.
Follow direction from adults. Students that are chronically noncompliant will not be permitted to attend.
Demonstrate respect for others. A student that is rude or disrespectful towards others or property will not be permitted to attend.
Be a leader. Model excellence. Students that continue to violate the code of conduct or demonstrate behaviors that are not outstanding examples of what an SJH student exemplifies will not be permitted to attend..
Please remind your student of these expectations.
Students with current class failures will not be permitted to attend. These students will be addressed individually by Mr. Lavercombe on Tuesday, May 25th. They will be able to remain at school to complete coursework in an attempt to raise those failing grades.
This will be a fantastic day of celebration for our students. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Lavercombe at lavercombec@sycamoreschools.org or 686-1760.

The OAKS and other Career Information
Scarlet Oaks and Career Information
Traditionally 8th grade students get the opportunity to take a field trip to Scarlet Oaks, one of the four Great Oaks Career Campuses. Great Oaks specializes in career and technical education for both high school students and adults. At four campuses, Great Oaks high school students prepare for careers and college, and adults get training and certification to begin a new career or advance in a current career. Over 30 career programs are available for high school students living in 36 area school districts.
This year Scarlet Oaks was unable to hold in person tours, but they have created excellent virtual tour opportunities for the greater majority of career programs they offer. We encourage your child to view some of these virtual tours and read up on all that Scarlet Oaks has to offer. Students will have the opportunity to learn more about Scarlet Oaks during 9th and 10th grade.
Great Oaks main website can be accessed here: https://www.greatoaks.com/
The direct link to virtual tours can be accessed here: https://hs.greatoaks.com/future-students/virtualtours/
Ohio Means Jobs
We would like to remind all families that Ohio Means Jobs is a free website that helps students begin and expand upon their career exploration. It includes a career interest inventory that students can take as many times as they like to help guide them in their career search. *The website has been going through some changes, so navigation has changed somewhat and may continue to do so. They are also adding additional career tools so it can be good to revisit the site periodically.

Beta Club Applications
If your 7th-grade student met the academic qualifications, they were sent an email to notify them about applying for Sycamore Jr. High National Beta Club for their 8th-grade year.
Beta Club is a nationally recognized organization that is similar to the National Honor Society at the high school. It recognizes high academic achievement and promotes serving others through community service. Beta Club members are seen as leaders within the building and will be offered a variety of opportunities to be involved in school functions throughout the year.
Please have your student check their email for their application that was sent last week, the deadline is quickly approaching on Monday, May 10th. Also due on this date is the national membership fee of $20. Details about cash or check payments and where to deliver the fee are also provided in the application. No late fees or applications will be accepted.
If you have any questions, please email the club sponsors, Mrs. Darbyshire or Mrs. Dworkin.
Social Studies Assignment: Clarification
In some history classes, students will be given an assignment that includes the distribution of a fictitious letter about school funding and "points for grades". This is an exercise ONLY and is not real. We wanted to let you know ahead of time so that you would not be alarmed.
Thank you.
