Happy Almost Summer, Families!
People keep asking me to make these newletters shorter π, but I want to take a (brief) moment to express my gratitude for all of you and for this school year with your kiddos. There were many ups and downs, but overall it was a terrific year! I saw students, families, and staff supporting each other, collaborating, and comisserating. There was an abundance of empathy, joy, creativity, and patience. Unexpected friendships emerged, and extrordinary learning took place.
I wish you all a very fun and fulfilling last couple weeks of school and an adventourous summer vacation with your families. I can't WAIT to see what we can do together next year!!

From the Office...
- Any checked in MEDICATIONS will be disposed of over the summer. If you need anything back, please have an adult come by to collect them. Meds cannot be sent home with students.
- LOST & FOUND items will be donated June 18th so make sure you take a last poke through before school gets out.
- RAIN GEAR & BOOTS (and spare clothing) should be taken home over the summer. Our boot collection has gotten pretty crusty/musty and we are going to throw out/donate all unclaimed boots in June.
- The school grounds and office will be closed most of the month of July. We'll be back in full swing August 4th for tours and REGISTRATION details.
New Dean of Students!
Brie Bui-Hirschberg
Ms. Bui-Hirschberg will be joining the Muskrat Squad next year as Dean of Students. She has been a sub for us this spring and we were immediately impressed with her 15 years as a classroom teacher, her passion for scientific inquiry, and the way she connects with staff and students. She is an experienced educator with a proven track record in fostering positive school culture through student-centered, trauma-informed, and restorative practices. Brie was appreciated in Gresham-Barlow for mentoring peers, facilitating inquiry-based learning, and promoting equity through inclusive, data-informed strategies. Welcome Brie!!
I would also like to take a moment to acknowledge the amazing work done by Behavior Intervention Coach Fae Hagerty, who is leaving us next year. Fae has worked closely with many of our students over the past two years, utilizing her skills as grower and wilderness therapist to connect with students who find school too challenging to manage sometimes. Fae led the charge to develop several systems of support for managing conflict and teaching skills in and out of the classroom. We owe her a great deal of gratitude and wish her well in her next adventures!
From the PTO...

From the Board...
Japanese Exchange Program - HOST FAMILIES NEEDED
We are excited to announce that we are bringing back our Japanese Student Exchange program this summer! And we are looking for 10 host families to provide homes for students from August 8-18th. Here are some details:
- Bring a unique international experience into your home.
- Short homestays offer a great chance to get to know a new friend from across the Pacific.
- Learn about Japanese and (yes, your own) culture, customs, and food in your own home.
- Host families need not do anything special or out of the ordinary during the visit: they are here to experience normal life in your home...
- Muddy Creek will provide a $100 food stipend to offset some of the expense. We will also help coordinate some student activities while they are here.
Please have a look at the attached flyer for more details. And Contact Lester Oehler for more information or to sign up: 541-602-0605, lhenricko@gmail.com
