NAVIGATORS ON TRIKES
Over the last decade, Ms. Andrews has assembled a small fleet of heavy-duty tricycles for PreK-1st graders to ride. They are built to hold up to constant use and people of very different weights. There are some passenger-seat tricycles and it is not uncommon to have children gleefully cart around their adult teachers. Ms. Andrews takes out all the younger students at one time or another to circle around the large cement patio in front of the school entrance.
This particular group of students came from Ms. Dupont's class with Ms. Rie Asato-Ditch helping Ms. Andrews. Helmets were buckled on and kids turned loose. Guidance was given to keep the chaos under control and kids safe. As always, there was a lot of joy on display. It helps that the weather is frequently wonderful these days. IMAGINATION 2ND GRADE SPELLING
When these pictures were taken, Ms. Bachand's 2nd grade students were doing their best to spell words that she was calling out. They used all their spelling skills of sounding out components of words to figure out which letters to write down. It was a very focused group. Link to 17 Pictures. 9-26-2023
IMAGINATION 3RD GRADE READING
Three groups were formed to work on reading skills together with the support of an adult or individually nearby their peers. Ms. Blaisdell and Ms. Gagner provided instruction. Link to 15 Pictures. 9-26-2023

MOMENTS IN THE MAKERSPACE AND LIBRARY
The library was a busy place on Tuesday with groups of students moving through the makerspace and others visiting to check out books.
FACILITIES STAFF
Mr. Frank Pelkey and Mr. Richard Barrett tackled the repair of a water fountain in the hallway next to the front entrance on Tuesday. In recent years, a number of these fountains have been installed - replacing the in-classroom sink fountains that performed poorly, if they existed at all. The newer hallway fountains provide cool, filtered water and have proven very popular.
WELCOME TO NEW NAVIGATORS PRE-K TEACHER
Ms. Alaina Boulet just started as a Pre-K teacher in the Navigators learning community group. She came over from St. Albans Town School to help fill a gap in the program. Her Pre-K teaching peers gave her a heart-felt welcoming party on Wednesday, 9-27-2023.

SONYA SOTOMAYOR
Before Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor took her seat in our nation's highest court, she was just a little girl in the South Bronx. Justice Sotomayor didn't have a lot growing up, but she had what she needed -- her mother's love, a will to learn, and her own determination. With bravery she became the person she wanted to be. With hard work she succeeded. With little sunlight and only a modest plot from which to grow, Justice Sotomayor bloomed for the whole world to see.
ZAPATO POWER
Things are not going well at Starwood Elementary! A squirrel is running through the halls. A tree fell on the gym. The principal is acting weird! Can Freddie save the day with his Zapato Power?
ADA'S VIOLIN
Ada Ríos grew up in Cateura, a small town in Paraguay built on a landfill. She dreamed of playing the violin, but with little money for anything but the bare essentials, it was never an option...until a music teacher named Favio Chávez arrived. He wanted to give the children of Cateura something special, so he made them instruments out of materials found in the trash. It was a crazy idea, but one that would leave Ada—and her town—forever changed. Now, the Recycled Orchestra plays
