The Literacy Link
March Reading is coming in like a lion!!!!! Falcons are making awesome gains during Tier 2 Interventions. We now have 14 students working with higher-level phonics which involve reading words with prefixes/ suffixes and learning how to divide multisyllabic words! Foundational phonics groups in grades 1-5 have reduced their numbers. For example, 11 students are still working with letter names/sounds and the fluency/accuracy group has bloomed past 100 students!
FES Readers also continue to meet the criteria for earning a book from the vending machine. There were 60 students who read last month. Parents/Guardians please remember to write your child's first and last name, as well as teacher's name and grade level on the monthly reading sheet before turning it in.
Finally, come join us for Reading Night on March 11th. Teachers are preparing fun activities for students AND, we will reveal our ONE SCHOOL ONE BOOK for 2025!!!!!!!
Many students are learning through Lexia!
The Calculation Station
Spring Into Math Fun! Spring begins March 20th. Let's get outside! Here are some fun math ideas families can do while taking a nature walk in the warmer air.
Counting and Classification:
- Count the number of different types of trees, flowers, birds, or insects you see on your walk.
- Categorize plants by color, leaf shape, or size.
- Estimate the total number of leaves on a tree branch.
Measurement:
- Measure the circumference of tree trunks using a string and ruler.
- Measure the distance between different landmarks on your walk.
Patterns and Symmetry:
- Observe the spiral patterns on pinecones, sunflowers, or seashells.
- Analyze the symmetry of leaves and flower petals.
- Look for repeating patterns in the arrangement of branches on a tree.
Geometry:
- Identify different geometric shapes found in nature, like triangles in leaf veins or circles in tree rings.

Important Information
Immigration
Caroline County Public Schools is aware of concerns regarding recent changes to U.S. immigration policy and enforcement. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has provided guidance which reinforces our own belief that every student—regardless of immigration status—receives the support they need from our educational system. Please visit the CCPS website for complete information.
Change of Student School Assignment
The 2025-2026 Application for a Change of Student School Assignment is available online from March 1 through June 1. Please visit the Caroline County Public Schools webpage for requirements and application.
