Husky E-News

From the Principal
Hillendale,
Thank you so much for your time, energy, and generosity on Friday evening at our annual spring adult fundraiser at Mt. Cuba! As always, it was a wonderful time and a night to remember.
Last year, we came together with a fundraising goal to build a new outdoor learning space. I’m proud to share that as of earlier this week, construction is complete, our picnic tables have been delivered, and our outdoor learning space is fully operational! Over the next few weeks, a whiteboard, projector, and wifi will all be installed creating an outdoor setting that will be able to deliver all the teacher comforts that our indoor classrooms do. This incredible opportunity for our children is all thanks to you!
Funds raised at our Parents Night Out this year will be spent on refreshing our “train yard” space on the lower portion of our campus. This area has needed some love for quite some time. We plan to turn the money raised through the silent auction and event into an expanded play space for our kids!
Thank you so much to all our sponsors Friday evening including:
SKM Electrics
Rawlins Orthodontics
Cosmos Diner Restaurant
Fusco's Water Ice
Terra Sol Energies
Ferguson McKenna Supply
Thank you to our PTO Board and our Event Committee including Renne Rawlins, Amanda Biggs, Lauren Alexopoulos, and Chelsea Wirth!
Thank you to Elizabeth Lunger and Glaucia McKenna for all of their work contributing to the auction!
Special thanks to the Hillendale Elementary school staff for donating wonderful experiences for our students, and for their support of the event.
Thank you to Cliff Hills for once again providing music for us, Mojo Loco for providing a great diner, and Mt. Cuba for their extended partnership with Hillendale and opening up their beautiful space to us.
Your incredible generosity and partnership truly make Hillendale a remarkable place to grow up!
Thank you again! Have a great week!
Josh Leight

Solar Eclipse Viewing Party "Save the Date" & Information
Hillendale is planning a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party for students, staff, and families on Monday, April 8th at 3:00 PM! At 3:23 PM, the eclipse will be nearly total. This is a once in a multi-decade opportunity right in our own backyard! See more information about the eclipse in Chadds Ford on 4/8 using this link!
The Unionville Chadds Ford School District is excited that parents, family members, students, and staff can come together to share in the once in a generation event to observe the total solar eclipse on April 8th. While the District is providing viewers with eclipse glasses to enhance the experience, we want to remind all participants of the need for safety in observing a total eclipse and that each individual is responsible for ensuring that proper safety measures are taken. Information about safety measures all participants should take is linked below:
https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/safety/
We will close our typical parent pick-up car line that day and asking families to park, join us on the lower field, and enjoy the eclipse with our student body prior to taking students home or sending them home on the bus at 3:40 PM. A local astronomical organization and our PTO have generously donated safe viewing glasses for our entire school community including parents/family members who are planning to come.
For the Viewing Event on 4/8 HES will ensure:
- All viewing glasses donated and purchased are quality glasses that are approved for eclipse viewing.
- All participants have a pair of viewing glasses.
- All students & staff are instructed on the proper use of viewing glasses prior to the event
- All participants are aware of the danger of looking directly at the sun, especially if the glasses are not used properly.
- There will be adult supervision to assist students with their viewing glasses.
Student Wellness Day Family Survey
We are thrilled to announce the return of Hillendale’s Student Wellness Day scheduled for 9:30 - 3:00 PM on FRIDAY, April 19th. In alignment with UCFSD’s Wellness Standards and 7 Dimensions of Wellness, Hillendale students will enjoy a day centered around physical, mental, social & environmental health - true trademarks of what makes Hillendale such a special place!
As we begin our planning efforts, we are looking to see if any of you believe that you (or a connection of yours) may be able to offer 20-minute wellness related sessions to our kindergarten through fifth graders once or multiple times throughout the day on April 19th. Think about your profession, hobbies, unique experiences, talents, etc. and how you could create a brief, engaging opportunity to enrich our students' wellness experience.
Session should be tied to one of the 7 Dimensions of Wellness, include school appropriate content, be appropriate for a wide range of ages, and include hands-on, interactive opportunities for our youthful audience. Sessions may either be for the entire grade level at once (60 - 75 students) or for individual classes (20 - 25 students) depending on how many sessions we end up being able to offer.
Please use this link to submit your session idea. Thank you in advance for considering!
