Pastor Rich's Weekly Devotional
Beloved in God’s Eyes
Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.1 Corinthians 1:26
I enjoy watching television documentaries about the royal families of the world. What a life some of them lead! In my opinion, their claim to fame rarely has much to do with decades of toil, challenging studies, or applying themselves to achieve their greatest potential. Sadly, for too many their claim to fame is that they were born.
Since royal families have few peers, they are a tight-knit community, often intermarrying to maintain their place in the world.
For the rest of us who are not of noble birth, we cannot rely upon our ancestors opening doors for us for employment, unique perquisites, or privilege.
Faith in Christ, thankfully, is not based upon one’s pedigree. For instance, we cannot arrive at the gates of heaven and talk about our parents’ great faith. The question then is going to be about your own relationship to God.
Knowing that, many of us believe we have to work pretty hard to make it into God’s kingdom, just as we work hard to make a living and survive week by week. It may even be tempting to knock ourselves out trying to impress God with our faithful accomplishments. But as Paul goes on to remind us, “God is the source of your life in Christ Jesus” (1 Cor. 1:30).
Ultimately, what matters most is God’s choice to love and bless you. That is what grace is. As you begin to realize the depth of God’s love for you, it’s possible to stop working to prove yourself, yet begin loving out of gratitude. You will still work hard, but without the stress of wondering, “Is this good enough?” For the nobility of grace is God’s gift to you.
Join us for worship this Sunday at 10:30 am.
Pastor Rich will bring us the message, The Search Continues.

THE PATRIARCHS
Encounter the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob by Beth Moore
Wednesdays, 10 am - Noon
March 5 - May 14
Come along for a study through Genesis 12 - 50 encountering the turbulent lives of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph in the "Patriarchs" study by Beth Moore. Learn where the current conflict in the Mideast began. See how the same God who directed the beginning of great nations cares and leads us through life today.
Discover a perfect and holy God who endures in His relationship with man at his best -- and his weakest and worst. Full of twists and turns, ruin and redemption, revelation and mystery, this study will keep you captivated by the God who stars in it.
Our 11-week class will consist of a DVD message by Beth Moore (who communicates with great energy, passion, humor and grace) and a discussion of what we've learned through our homework. Workbooks will be available at the first class.
Everyone is welcome!

Come Check out the Remodeled Nursey & Consider Volunteering
We are happy to announce that our nursery was recently remodeled. Come check it out down in Room 117.
We are also pleased to announce that there is a need to make the Nursery available on Sundays. Families with infants or toddlers have recently attended our services. While we welcome children in our Sanctuary, the parents stepped out into the Lakeview with their little ones.
It would be a blessing to these families if we could provide a place for their baby or toddler to go while the parents attend the worship service. Please consider volunteering in the Nursery one Sunday a month from about 10:00 am -12:00 pm. The service can be live streamed in the Nursery as well.
Contact Leida in the Church office or Mike Starynchak if you can help!
Why Per Capita?
Each year, Presbyterians across the nation make the commitment to support our shared leadership through Per Capita. We are a priesthood of all believers. As a part of this call, we share in the responsibility of supporting the church and her regional and national leaders.
We are a connectional church; no worshipping community in our denomination is isolated. The entirety of the church is called to work with one another in making ministry possible throughout our region, state, and nation. Our regional Presbyteries, Synods, and national denominational offices work alongside one another to support, guide, and collaborate thanks to Per Capita funding.
All Per Capita donations to OLCCP ($37.09 per member) are passed through to the higher judicatories (Presbytery of Detroit, Synod of the Covenant, General Assembly) for their administrative support. Thank you for your support.
