Staff Spotlight
Meet Kayla Katarzynski Sutkowski, social worker, from Reed School
What's your favorite part about being a member of D92?
My coworkers! They make coming to work so much fun and exciting. They are always willing to help when needed, bounce ideas off each other and like to make work more fun!
What's your favorite type of music?
Country music. Country music reminds me of the summer time and sunshine! My family, friends and I love to go to country concerts and have some great memories going to them.
Do you have a favorite vacation spot?
Punta Cana. I went for the first time for my honeymoon and it was amazing! I definitely didn't want to leave and will be going back at some point!
Meet Amy Ternig, teacher, fromReed School
Hi! I'm Amy Ternig at Reed School.
My definition of success is the amount of joy I still feel after 25 years of working here at D92. Growing up, my favorite teacher was Mrs. Nadjezko. She was my Second Grade teacher and she inspired me to teach Second Grade too. She always believed in me and I hope my own kiddos know how much I believe in them as well!
My favorite type of music is three-fold: Taylor Swift, Florence and the Machine and Eminiem...in that order!
I'm enclosing a pic of me and my daughter at a Sox Game last summer. We're big fans!
Meet Samantha Frankowski, First Grade Teacher, Walsh School
What's your favorite part about being a member of D92?
My favorite part about being a member of D92, is the sense of community and support that we have here. Whether it's the dedicated staff, engaged parents, or the enthusiastic students, everyone works together to create a positive and enriching learning environment for the students. It's truly inspiring to see the commitment to education and the well-being of each student!
What do you love most about our students?
There are so many things that I love about the students in D92. They come to school everyday with enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. It's incredible to see how curious and engaged they are, always ready to explore new concepts and ideas! I also admire the kindness and empathy our students show towards one another, they are always willing to help and support their peers. Their positive energy and willingness to support each other, really does make our school community so special.
Do you have a favorite vacation spot?
My favorite vacation spot is Tarpon Springs, Florida. I grew up going there with my family to visit my grandma and grandpa. I still enjoy going down there and visiting many of the family members I still have down in the Tarpon Springs and Tampa area. Tarpon Springs is a cute little town known for its rich Greek heritage and its famous sponge docks. There is a lot of history in Tarpon, and they have the best Greek restaurants and bakeries there. It is a must visit if you are ever in the Tampa area!
Meet Kristin Flynn, Permanent Sub, Ludwig School
Do you have a favorite vacation spot?
My absolute favorite vacation spot is Disney World. I went there a few times as a child, but to see Disney through the eyes of my children has been priceless. We have traveled with my whole family a few times and made so many memories that I will cherish forever. Everything about Disney is magical to me. I wish I could live in the Magic Kingdom.
Who inspires me?
My mom inspires me. There has never been a day in my entire life that I have needed my mom that she has not been there. She is kind to everyone she meets. She listens and takes a genuine interest in anyone that is in her presence. She loves fiercely and she makes sure to let all her people know how truly cared about they are. I strive everyday to be the mom to my children that she is to me. Why did you join D92?
I was honored to be able to take a full time position at D92 three years ago. Both of my children have gone through the district and had a wonderful experience. I volunteered for years when my kids were young. I subbed in the district many years before taking my dream job at Ludwig. Being the building substitute, I have the unique opportunity to work with all the students in the building. I get to work with both grade level teams and build relationships with so many students and staff. I feel good knowing that both the students and staff know they can count on me to step right in at any time to accomplish whatever needs to be done.
Meet Ashley Perusich, Fourth Grade Teacher, Ludwig School
Who inspires you?
I have so many amazing people around me that inspire me. As an individual, my husband inspires me daily to be a better thinker and look at things from all angles. My parents inspire me to be a hard worker with a charitable heart. My children, Willa and Wyatt, inspire me to see the beauty in the smallest things around me. Our amazing team at Ludwig inspire me as an educator every single day. My team is filled with the most passionate teachers I have ever worked with. No one builds relationships like Ms. Vickers, meets the needs of her learners like Ms. Mata, makes each student feel important like Ms. Walden, creates excited and enthusiastic learners like Mrs. C. Lange, is as positive as Mrs. M. Lange and is as ambitious as Ms. Wright! I am a very lucky person to be surrounded by such an amazing group of educators!
What impact do you hope to leave on others?
The impact I want to leave on others, students and adults alike, is the feeling of belongingness. I hope that as my students grow they think back to their time in my room and remember their quirky 4th grade teacher as a teacher that made them feel welcome and loved each and every day. I hope that my students take with them those lessons of kindness and belonging and are encouraged to be leaders in empathy and compassion.
Who is a hero to you and why?
My hero is and has always been my dad. A lifelong educator and football coach and eventual administrator, he is someone who dedicated his professional life to young minds and it was him who I learned the importance of caring. No one cared more about his students and players more than my dad. Even after he retired from 40 years of teaching, he was immediately asked to serve on the School Board, which he did until he was almost 70 years old! As a teacher’s kid I had to share my dad with “his kids” but I look at that as such a privilege because I know, especially from the stories I have heard as a grown up, about how many young minds and lives he helped. If I can be just half the teacher my dad was, I will consider that an accomplishment.
Meet Sarah Siwinski, Kindergarten Teacher, Walsh School
Why did you join D92?
I joined D92 during COVID as a Kindergarten teacher. I had been subbing and was looking for a more permanent home, but I stayed because of the amazing staff at Walsh. Everyone was (and still is) very welcoming. The collaboration and support from colleagues during such unprecedented times showed the true heart of the staff at Walsh.
Do you have a favorite vacation spot?
I tend to fall in love with every spot I vacation at; every year I get a new favorite! However, I discovered I am a mountain view over beach vacation kind of girl. On my trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee I spent hours sitting in a rocking chair enjoying the view and company. The sense of peace I found there has been unmatched so far! My goal is to visit all 50 states!
What's your favorite hobby?
I enjoy crocheting while watching a TV show or movie. It is rewarding to me to have a usable product at the end of my hard work.
Meet Chris Weber, Technology District Office
My favorite part of working in D92 is having generational ties to it. I am currently a resident of D92, have two children who graduated from Oak Prairie, and my youngest will graduate this coming spring having spent her entire educational career thus far in D92. Going back one generation, my wife also went from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade in D92—in fact her Kindergarten class room was in what is now the district office. Going back two generations, my father-in-law and grandmother-in-law both served on the board. It’s always makes me smile when I find their names on various plaques throughout the district’s buildings.
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
In high school, Mr. Crosby was my math teacher for two years. He was, and still is, a math teacher at Benet Academy in Lisle, IL. More than anything math-specific, it was his patience and belief in me that helped me turn the corner from dreading a subject to really enjoying it. There was more than just a love of math that he helped me develop. During those years is when I started to see learning, in general, as a skill to foster and develop. I am grateful for that time with him.
What's your favorite food?
This one's too easy, and it’s really a first without a second. Hands down my favorite food is a ribeye! Add some salt and rosemary, and c’mon, I mean fuhgedaboudit.
Meet Paula Borst, Paraprofessional, Reed School
What do you enjoy most about working in D92?
The children!! Every morning I greet the children’s smiling faces and receive their hugs. They bring optimism and joy to each day at Reed School. Their innocent and refreshing perspectives make each moment an opportunity to believe in kindness and all that is possible! They inspire me with their positivity and excitement. Thank you to ALL THE CHILDREN for allowing me to share little moments in their lives; their struggles, their successes, their spirit!!
Who is a hero to you and why?
My daughter, Lauren, is a true hero. I admire her courage, determination and her ability to put the needs of others before her own. Lauren is a paraprofessional at Walsh in the EC program and those ‘littles’ are her passion. She loves her students and approaches each day with an optimistic mindset and a strong moral compass. She sees the good in everyone and everything! Lauren is a true beam of inspiration and encouragement.
Do you have a favorite vacation spot?
My daughter, Lauren, and I adore Disney World. It has been many years since we visited, but the memories we made there still shine bright. We will get there again someday. There truly is a special type of magic there.
Meet Kerry Paulin, Special Education Teacher, Oak Prairie School
What do you enjoy most about working in D92?
I enjoy working in my local community and helping our students succeed. As a student council sponsor, I enjoy all the social and philanthropic activities we host at Oak Prairie. My fondest memories are of our past St. Baldrick’s fundraisers. As the event's emcee, it was like hosting a huge party for the entire school and community. We had speeches, singers, bagpipers, drummers, dancers, gymnasts, and lots of head shaving…all while standing in solidarity and raising funds for childhood cancer research.
What's your favorite hobby?
My favorite hobby is exercising. I love being physically active and moving. On most nights, I can be found jumping around teaching bungee fitness classes at our local Bungee & Pilates Studio.
What impact do you hope to leave on others?
I hope my students know how much I care about them and how incredibly important and special they are to me. I want my students to gain the confidence that they can do amazing things. I want my students to look forward to coming to school and truly enjoying their time at Oak Prairie, filling each day with positive memories.
