What Does The Fox Say?
September 5, 2024
Below, find a community letter from Mr. Williard, Drama Teacher.
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Sometimes you just have to take a big step! My name is CJ Willard and I'm the new Drama teacher at Inspire. This is my first year teaching elementary school and I'm so excited to be here. I've taught improv to adults for years, and awhile back one of my improv students, who's a high school teacher in DPS, asked me after class if I'd ever considered teaching public school. I just couldn't shake the thought.
So when this opportunity to teach drama at Inspire became available, I knew I needed to take the big step, change my entire career path, and go for it. I can't tell you the amount of times I've heard an adult student say something like, "Wow, improv has really changed my life. I wish I could've learned some of this sooner!" Well, your students get that chance! We're going to explore the principles of creativity, making choices, deciphering complex emotions, and more through this drama class. During the first week of school, we learned to change the shape of our bodies in order to get into character. Watching students grasp that concept and transform into someone else for the first time was so, so fun. It let me know that taking this big step was the right thing to do for myself and for these students.
I can't wait to see what the rest of this year holds!
- CJ Willard

Garden, Goats, and Chickens
With financial support of the PTO, Inspire Elementary will reconnect with SustainEd Farms to run programming with our classes! Our students will have access to the garden, goats and chickens with lessons taught by SustainEd staff. Our classes will have an opportunity to get into the garden three times a year (once per trimester) for a thirty minute experience. The program begins next week! Keep an eye on the teacher newsletter for a notification.
Put Money in Your Child's Lunch Account
All students have access to free breakfast and lunch. Students who want a second lunch or a la carte items (snacks) will need to pay through the My School Bucks account. Students who do not have funds in their account may not take a second lunch or a la carte items.
Free Reduced Lunch Status
If your family submitted and received Free and Reduced Lunch (FRL) status last year, please remember that you must resubmit the Meal Benefits Application application every year. FRL status will allow the school to waive fees for your family and also provides access to district level supports. Apply today!
Behavior and Emotional Screening System (BESS)
Here at Inspire, we are dedicated to helping every child succeed by creating an equitable and inclusive environment, where our students feel socially and emotionally supported. In order to create a learning environment that is equitable, supportive, and welcoming, Inspire will incorporate social and emotional screening for our students during the school year.
- We are asking that our parents participate in the screening process by completing the BESS Parent Screener form to answer questions about how your child is feeling and behaving at home.
- The BESS is a screening tool for schools to determine student strengths and weaknesses in their child's behavioral and emotional health. This tool is short in duration (29 questions). Please join Inspire in our support of your child’s social and emotional well being by completing the BESS Parent Screener.
- You can access the screener with the link tinyurl.com/bessparent.
- The screening window is open now and the deadline is 10/18/24.

September Monthly Theme
Growth Mindset - Believing in the possibility of Improvement. Here at Inspire, we believe strongly in meeting our students where they are at and helping them to learn and grow. Your students will be learning about Growth Mindset throughout the month of September from their homeroom teachers but you too can help to reinforce this concept at home.
