The Sky's the Limit
March 2024
Congaree Families,
March is upon us and it appears that we are experiencing an early spring. We'll prepare for all the good things that spring brings. Thank you to everyone that supported Congaree as we were recognized for our work for engaging with our families at the February school board meeting. Thank you to everyone that supported our Read Across America Week and Book Fair. Please visit Dojo or social media to see some of the activities that our students completed.
As we approach the end of the 3rd Learning Quarter, we commend our students for their hard work and commitment to learning. Parents, please talk to your child’s teachers if you have questions about their progress. We also look forward to recognizing the achievements and efforts of our students at the upcoming 3rd Nine Weeks SOAR Awards Programs on March 22, 2024. Your support plays a crucial role in fostering a positive and motivating learning environment.
Join us in honoring our incredible School Social Workers during National School Social Work Week. Their dedication and compassion make a positive impact on the lives of our students every day. Excitement is building as our talented students prepare to dazzle the audience with their production of the play "Oz." Save the date for a magical experience filled with creativity, teamwork, and unforgettable performances! We thank the Baillie Players for working with our students to make the production a success each time they are at Congaree.
Attendance Matters! Please make sure to have students at school no later than 7:30 am, and allow them to stay in school until 2:30 pm daily. We do not have early dismissals after 2:00 pm to protect learning time. Please see the following three facts about student attendance:
Regular attendance is a key predictor of student success.
Every missed school day, tardy, and early dismissal is a missed opportunity for learning and growth.
Consistent attendance lays the foundation for strong academic performance and future success
Finally, we want you to talk with your students about staying extra focused on their learning as we enter the 4th and Final Learning Quarter of the school year. It is also very important that they do their absolute best with their behavior in class, at recess, on the school bus, and every other place related to school. We want our students to continue to grow and to achieve. Please let us know if you ever have questions or concerns about school. We appreciate all that you do.
Respectfully,
Mr. Dickey

Nurse News
March is Brian Injury Awareness Month:
Brain injury is the leading cause of disability and death in children and adolescents in the United States There are more than 5.3 million children and adults in the United States who are living with a permanent brain injury-related disability. The greatest challenges many children with brain injury face are changes in their abilities to think, learn, and develop socially appropriate behaviors.
Ways to Prevent a Brain Injury Are:
1- Focus on Your Surroundings
2- Make Safe Choices
3- Always Wear a Seatbelt
4- Don't Text and Drive
5- Wear a helmet
6- Use proper sports safety equipment
7-Take it easy after a head injury/concussion
8- Wait until the doctor says it's OK before returning to rough play or sports. If the brain gets injured again while it is still healing, it will take even longer to completely heal.
Healthy Reminder
Regular handwashing is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and keep from spreading germs to others. It is particularly important to wash your hands at appropriate times before, during, and after preparing food, after using the toilet, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
Counselors Corner
We are welcoming a variety of community workers to come speak to our students on Friday, March 22nd! Starting at 8:15 am, we will have several visitors for each grade level introduce their career fields, discuss the important aspects of the job, and answer student questions of interest. Career day allows students to gain exposure to workforce opportunities they may pursue in the future, so make sure your child is present and ready to learn!
Attendance Matters
We are still having our monthly parent drawings for perfect student attendance and we have acquired some great goodies! Local businesses Steve's Deli and House of Pizza have donated gift certificates for free meals, so you do not want to miss out. As parents/guardians of elementary school students, we are responsible for making school attendance a priority so they are set up for success. Free meals and excellent attendance is a great combination!
