If you plan to take Walters State dual enrollment classes in the fall, you should complete the application and registration process as soon as possible.

All required steps are listed below.

Walters State Community College Dual Enrollment Course(s) Checklist:

1. View the two videos

2. Complete the WSCC Dual Enrollment Application online

3. Submit all admission and dual enrollment related forms - be sure to get required signatures from your parent/guardian and school counselor on the permission form. You will also need to get a copy of your transcript from your school counselor.

4. Complete the Dual Enrollment Grant application online

5. Activate MyWS student portal account

6. Pay fees by tuition deadline

Once steps 1-4 have been completed, you will take the required paperwork to Ms. Kayla Huber at the WSCC Office of Distance Education. Her contact number is 423-585-2687. Please check with your school counselor if you have any questions.

During the months of June-August, he James H. Quillen VA Medical Center will be sponsoring a Summer Youth Program for students ages 14-19. Students who participate will have the opportunity to gain experience working in the medical field and serving our Nation's Veterans. Orientation will be on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the VA Medical Center. A parent or guardian is required to present to sign papers giving permission for their child to volunteer and receive a TB skin test. Please contact someone from the Voluntary Service Office at 423-979-2891 with questions.

Students will receive a list of the courses that they requested for next school in TNN on Friday, April 13th. Any errors that students find or changes that students want to make to these requests should be noted on this list of requests and turned in to the Counseling Office by Friday, April 20th. Please note that these are classes that the student requested, not the student's schedule.

Do you have a Parent Portal Account?

You must have one by May 16 to register your child/children for school for the 2018-2018 school year.

A parent/guardian of a returning student will only be able to register with THEIR Parent Portal Account (student portal accounts do not have access to the registration icon/link).

A link to returning student registration will not be posted on the district or school website, but you will find the link to the Parent Portal Login page on these sites. Most schools will not have office staff available when the registration window opens.

It is very important that you have your Parent Portal account created or issues resolved prior to May 16, 2018. This will ensure you have the best possible experience completing your child’s online enrollment.

Milligan College is hosting day camps during the week of July 9-13 for rising 9th-12th grade students who are interested in Computer Science, Engineering, Nursing, Teacher Education, or Musical Theater. A Sports Camp is also offered. Please click here for more information and to register. The registration fee is $300 for those who complete registration prior to June 1 (it is $400 for registration after June 1). Lunch is provided each day. University of Tennessee in Knoxville is hosting the following engineering program this summer for rising 12th grade students.

• High School Introduction to Engineering Systems for Twelfth Graders (HITES12): Rising 12th grade students live in a residence hall on campus, engage in hands-on engineering fundamentals activities, college life sessions, compete in engineering challenges, and tour an engineering industrial plant. Throughout the program, students team with each other to apply what was learned and work on an engineering design project. All applicants must have a minimum ACT math score of 25 (SAT math score of 590). Application deadline: April 13, 2018. Program dates: July 8-13, 2018.

George Washington University in Washington, D.C., offers several summer programs for rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Please visit precollege.gwu.edu for more information and to access the on-line application. Please note that there are costs associated with each of these programs, but limited scholarships are available. The deadline to apply for scholarships is March 1. The deadline to apply for the summer programs is May 1.

Summer school will be held as follows:

Session 1 will be May 29th until June 13th

Session 2 will be June 14th until June 29th

Students who need to complete credit recovery this summer should see their counselor for the application.

May 15 - 3rd, 4th periods final exams

May 16 - 1st, 2nd periods final exams

For students wishing to take the ACT on a national test date (see below - these are on Saturdays), students must register on-line at www.act.org. Please note: students who qualify for free/reduced lunch may use a total of 2 fee waivers during junior and/or senior years to pay for the cost of the ACT (without writing). Students should see Ms. Davidson in the Counseling Office for a fee waiver.

College visits can be extremely helpful as a student is making important decisions about to which schools he/she will apply and eventually about to which school he/she will eventually commit to attending. College visits and open house events often give students opportunities to learn about the application process, available financial aid and scholarships, housing options, and academic programs/majors. Students will generally be offered a tour of campus which includes dorms, dining and recreation facilities, student centers, and academic buildings. Setting foot on a college campus and experiencing some of the same things experienced by the college's students can help high school students decide if the school is a good "fit".
