2024 - 2025
November 8, 2024
Dear Families,
As we wrap up the week, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for our incredible students and supportive families. It's been a rainy stretch, but we finally saw some sunshine – a welcome sight after all the clouds! I hope you're also feeling some relief now that the flood of political ads, texts, calls, and door-to-door visits has come to an end. Thank you for all you do to support our school community. Here's to a peaceful weekend and a bright week ahead!
💖 Ms. Conrad
Important Weather Updates
Please be aware of the following:
1. New Weather Terminology: The National Weather Service (NWS) has updated its terminology for cold weather events.
Wind Chill Watch: Changed to Extreme Cold Watch
Wind Chill Warning: Changed to Extreme Cold Warning
Wind Chill Advisory: Changed to Cold Weather Advisory
Please note that the Extreme Cold Watches and Warnings will be issued when the forecast calls for -30° wind chills (previously -35°).
2. School Closure/Delay Decisions: We will make decisions regarding school closures or delays as early as possible during inclement weather events. The District Administrator, in consultation with the Transportation Supervisor and area peers, will determine the best course of action. We aim to communicate these decisions by 6:00 a.m. to allow ample time for planning.
3. 2-Hour Delays: As a reminder, our district utilizes 2-hour delays during winter weather events. This approach balances safety concerns with educational continuity. Please note that breakfast will not be available on 2-hour delay days, but lunch will be provided as usual.
For more information, please see our Inclement Weather page. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate winter weather together.
Update from MUSIC
In December, our students will have the chance to explore different instruments, and we need your help! We’re looking for music-loving volunteers to guide students as they test out various instruments and discover their musical talents. If you’re available to assist, please consider joining us for this fun and meaningful experience. Your support will make a big difference in inspiring the next generation of musicians! As Seen Around the District
Brought to you by Bruce, Karen & Marilee
In this picture you’ll see a programmable button that models the sound of the current focus for phonics in kindergarten. Students hear that sound and then trace the letter formation for making that letter before giving themselves a “high five”. Students engage with this after greeting their teacher in the morning when entering the classroom.
Sound cards used for word building in Magnetic lessons. Students can visually see both upper and lowercase letters they have learned and use them to orthographically build the words in the lesson.
L.5.2.a. Use common, grade-appropriate Greek and Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word (e.g., telegraph, photograph, autograph).
Shining Gilly Award Winners!
What is the Shining Gilly Award?
The Shining Gilly Award recognizes students who go above and beyond to show exceptional care for others or our school. These students exemplify the qualities we strive to nurture in all of our little citizens—kindness, responsibility, and a positive impact on their community. Whether it's an individual or a group of students, those who receive this award truly reflect the values we hold dear at our school.
Congratulations to Micah (4th) and Olive (3rd)!
Faces of SASD
In November, we're excited to feature our dedicated Library Media Specialists & Library Media Educational Assistant. Librarians play a crucial role in enhancing a school in several ways. They curate diverse collections of books and digital resources, ensuring that students and teachers have access to the materials they need for learning and exploration. Additionally, they teach students how to find, evaluate, and use information effectively, equipping them with essential skills for academic success and lifelong learning.
Mr. Hegazy is new to SASD this year and is such a wonderful addition to the Kegonsa community. His unwavering commitment to empowering our students, fostering curiosity, and nurturing a love of knowledge is invaluable. Thank you for all you do to make our school a vibrant place to learn!

School Hours 7:35-3:00
Office hours: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
School hours: 7:45 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Doors open at 7:35 a.m.
Please try to get your student to school by 7:35 every day. It gives your students ample time to get to their locker, chat with friends, and grab breakfast. We start our morning meeting at 7:45 and it is hard for kids to walk in late to the classroom when everyone is already begun the day.
If students are not in their classroom at 7:45 they will be marked tardy.
