BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING: FEBRUARY 18, 2025
Update from the Superintendent
Dr. Michael invited the elementary English Language Arts Steering Committee to present the committee recommendations on the new K-5 ELA curriculum in light of Ohio House Bill 33. The process was very collaborative, ensuring an engaging curriculum that meets the new law. Mrs. Erhard, Elementary Principal, Mr. Dennison, Elementary Assistant Principal, and Dr. Michael all thanked the committee for the hours they have put in this year reviewing programs, talking with their grade level teams, as well as visiting other districts.
Treasurer Update
The Treasurer reported adjustments to estimated resources and appropriations due to changes in grant award amounts from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. These adjustments affect funds including ARP Homeless, Special Education, Title I-A, Title III, Title IV-A, and IDEA Early Childhood Special Education.
Board Business
- A member of the Homer Alumni Association shared a proposal for preparing an application for a historical marker at Homer School. The Association proposes funding the marker independently, proceeding with state approval, or a private fundraiser. The Board indicated that they will look into the proposal and offer feedback at a future meeting.
- The Board voted to approve Field Trips, including, Northridge HS trip to the Central Ohio Healthcare Summit at the Ohio Expo Center and a Northridge MS trip to an Interactive Science & Hands-On Learning at the Center Of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus.
- The Board also voted to approve a preschool tuition increase from $160 to $180 per month for the Preschool Year 2025–2026.
